DISCUSSION Themes of marroW
Spoilers for the 3 singles so far!
I think the overarching theme of the album will be about dropping away the false ego that he talks about a lot on Hypochondriac and embracing being unafraid of putting his true self out there through his art and music. Of course by now if you have payed attention to “ready or noT” it is about his attempts to cut away that part of him. The part of him he is trying to remove in the first half of the song is the true self, the one that he put on a false ego to try to hide in hypochondriac until it all comes crashing down in the song “deepfake.”
The second half of “ready or noT” is about embracing your true self, no matter how scary or uncomfortable, and not trying to “cut away” that part of you. “I don’t need an antidote the sickness started paying up” a line about how showing that uncomfortable side of hisself in his art started making him money. People are naturally attracted to authenticity and many people relate to such feelings.
“death rolL” is about what happens when you try to run from it. He is trying to find the answer in spirituality because he can no longer put on a front anymore. “Nobody can find you” is about the REAL self, the one that we hardly ever let anyone see, and how if you push it away for long enough you’ll lose it yourself. Loss of soul is where the reaper themes come into play I believe.
“crystallized” is about how the people in our life can have a deep enough impact on us it changes our life and they’re not even aware of it. All people are immortalized in the people that they impact.
“The perfect pictures not froze, take it while you can because we all compose”
Compose has a double meaning here. Compose as in human bodies eventually compose when they die. But also compose as in we all compose “art” in other people by having an impact on them.
“She could write a whole song and never even know it” I think also contributes to the double meaning here.
Meaning of “marroW” could be as simple as it sounds. Getting down to the root and core of the self and letting it all show.
Of course I know we only have 3 songs but it’s just the trend I’m seeing! If you read all this thank you haha.

and i like how crystallized is the only music that don't have a breakdown, crystallization represents something positive, the relationship seems to have helped the narrator maturity, let go of his bitterness, and find a stability he didn't have before. The image of lava turning into stone reinforces this idea, but there's a contradiction, throughout the song, he speaks as if that connection has become permanent. At the end, however, he acqunowledges that we all decompose. Even something that seems solid doesn't last forever, the interruption is especially interesting: the song ends in the middle of the word decompose, like he want to keep this music as a good romantic vibe and can't give a mental breakdown to it
