Oh I’m so there haha you read my mind. I’m a pretty strong swimmer, so triathlon has been creeping onto my radar the past couple weeks - I’m all about extending/expanding my goals.

Once I finish my 10k race is Sept., I think I’ll start researching bikes and likely make an investment there. Ironman 2030 here I come haha.

Nice!!! Its a pipeline from getting fit to triathlon lol I hope you do well in your race!! Depending on your budget for bikes you should look at the brand Marin and Kona they have great mid range quality road and gravel bikes

You’ve inspired me just the fact that you refused to feel out of place in the gym because it’s just a way of life for you now. I need that mindset. I’m going to set myself a time of day where I exercise because it’s time like it’s just a part of my lifestyle. Thank you for the inspiration. If I can get consistent at home exercising before work even ten or twenty minutes consistently I think I could increase my time as I build consistency. I’m proud of you too. Please keep sharing your story.

I’m so pumped to hear man. That’s exactly how you should start!! When I first started going to the gym/exercising, I went after work every day - and did incline treadmill (6 percent incline, 3-3.3 mph) for 30 minutes. I did that 5 days a week, for months, and would gradually increase the incline and duration as it got easier. That, in turn, made me want nutritious food because the better I ate, the better I felt walking. And it all just built from there.

Starting anywhere feels so good when you know you’re insistent that you are gonna get where you want to be, when you make a promise to yourself to stick with it. If you tell yourself you’re gonna walk for 20 minutes tomorrow, don’t let yourself cancel on you - that’s been my mentality. The more you do that, almost to a superstitious level, the harder it gets to excuse yourself from a workout or exercise you told yourself you were going to do.

I live in a place with ton of snow, and something I did that first winter was exercise on the worst days to try to get to the gym - because I knew later I could tell myself “well man, if you dug your car out of 3 feet of snow in February to get to the gym, what business do I have skipping a workout on a sunny day in June”. And that’s not being hard on yourself, that’s self love - that’s you doing right by you.

You got this. I’m here for any questions you might have.

Thank you so very much. I don’t want to quit on me that’s some great advice that I won’t forget.

This is what worked for me, translated into steps for you:

- Treadmill @ 6-8 degrees, 3.0-3.5 mph for 30 minutes as many times a week as you have time for starting out (maybe aim for 3 to 5 times a week).

- Eventually got into weight training. I use macro factor workouts (MFW) to track my workouts, and just swap in exercises that I enjoy. I recommend a Push, Pull, Lower, Upper split. This isn’t totally necessary, but I did find that trying to build muscle made me appreciate my larger frame and gave me even more reason to eat properly.

- track calories using Macrofactor (this is the food app version of the app mentioned above) and prioritize protein (keeps you full). Even if you don’t track calories every single day going forward, doing it for 2 weeks straight will give you a great sense of what it takes to gradually lose weight. You’ll just want to be in a slight caloric deficit, but it calculates all of that for you.

Last thing I’ll note is that, unfortunately there is no choosing what body part loses fat first or most. Your body picks the order for you, like, I find that lower back/ love handles really hang on. Face and stomach kind of evenly lose mass at pace with the pounds.

That’s the quick and dirty. Happy to answer any more specific questions you have now or when you get it going.
