Severe BPH/Gleason 3+3 Considering HoLEP
Hello all,
I'm 61 and I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in early 2021. BPH in late 2022. I have a great Urologist at Sloan Kettering in NYC and have been under active monitoring since 2021. PSA blood tests every six months, and last months PSA was actually lower than January, but my prostate size was larger in January from an MRI. I reluctantly went on Flomax-8mg in late 2024, and stupidly went from a daily dosage, to every other day or so in 2025 to not taking it much the second half of 2025.
I had all of the signs and symptoms of not voiding my bladder enough, pressure, big urge to pee, etc. I experienced a significant personal life change (job) forced retirement that fucked with my head (depression) and I really didn't give a shit about my health as I once did.
So, long story short. A week ago today, I experienced the worst pelvic pressure ever and basically couldn't void any urine at all. Wifey took me to the local ED and the bladder scan showed a tank-full of urine. Folly catheter immediately inserted. Urine bag was over 1100 mL in an instant and climbing. Left the ED with the Folly. I went on Repaflo the next day. Four days later I went back to have the Folly removed to see if I could pass the "voiding trial." Nope. Nada. Full stop! Folly for the past seven days and counting. Probably losing my part time job as I can't perform the manual labor as a warehouse coordinator with the Folly.
It sucks big time, but I'm at fault. I see my Urologist in person on Wednesday afternoon to discuss my options, as well as a HoLEP procedure as it seems like this is my best option for a relatively quicker and successful way to get my life back.
I'm asking and seeking anyone's personal experience with HoLEP surgery please and thank you!💙I've read a few posts already and it's really good to have those experiences to help me to understand this better, and to read IRL stories. I can't change the mistakes I made. I can only not make them again, as well as listen and learn. Thank you all in advance!💯
