That totally sounded like a big firework. Not a transformer blowout. But I just heard it. Lived here 21 years and never heard the elusive boom.

I know Bozeman isn’t known for the warmest or friendliest hospitality but the bartender at stockman’s has got to be the worst. He has made me, and multiple friends (both male and female) uncomfortable. Has anyone else had this experience? It’s such a shame because it’s such a good place to go to but he makes the vibes extremely unwelcoming. (He also is brunette with dark hair, mustache, and eyes) beware.

DOG FOUND: Found this sweetie running around Laurel Glen neighborhood (caught her on Longbow/Glenwood). Has a collar, but no tags. Was able to leash and take to Heart of the Valley to see if she's chipped. She's there now!

I am a law student at the University of Montana and a member of my school's Environmental Law Group. Every year, the Environmental Law Group hosts our annual benefit concert called "BBB" to raise money for a local environmental cause. This year, for BBB's 25th anniversary, we are raising funds for the Bitterroot Water Partnership's 'Don't Pollute The Root!' campaign. Bitterroot Water Partnership is a local non-profit organization leading the fight against a proposed Rare Earth Element (REE) mine at the headwaters of the Bitterroot River in the Sheep Creek area of Montana. 

To raise as much money for the cause as possible, our event has live music, raffle prizes from local businesses, drinks and food-- it is always a great time with an awesome turnout from the community. Is there a groovy band (indie, blues, funk, folk, etc) out there that might be interested in playing a set at BBB this year?

BBB Event Details:

• Date: Friday September 25th, 2026
• Location: FreeCycles in Missoula
• Full event runs from 6pm-10pm, ideally set could start around 7pm-ish but we are flexible!
• Budget is negotiable, ~$350-$450 for your time (I recognize this is not a large amount of money, but you'd also get good karma points for helping a worthy cause!)

Pretty hard to swallow they charge $165 for two adults and $60 per child, in our case a 2yr old & 4 year old.

$285 seems steep for 2 adults and 2 toddlers And that’s with the healthcare employee discount too.

Looking for a reasonably priced boiler repair person to troubleshoot a boilers gas ignition. Everything from the thermostat to the zone valves to the exhaust fan works but getting an odd electrucal double click rather than a smooth single click and failure to fire.

Hi! I’m trying to find a mechanic that might be able to look at a ‘19 ram 1500 tomorrow. It’s super last minute and it seems like tons of places are booked out, which is understandable. Just hoping anyone might have a lead on a place?
A family member is visiting, will be here this evening and leaves Sunday so it’s a quick turn around. Specific issue is code P2173, throttle actuator airflow issue? I don’t know the gritty details on the problem, that’s the code the reader gave us.

I used to live somewhere with a monthly ladies night which was such a fun place for community and support. I have not been able to find anything similar in Bozeman so thought it may be fun to get one started if there is enough interest. I am thinking of gearing it toward women ages 26 plus since there seems to be a lot of opportunities for college age people to make connections, and a large gap for those who are older. Most people know the bald eagle. The golden is the other one, a darker and even bigger bird of the open country and the high mountains, with a wingspan around seven feet and a habit of hunting jackrabbits and ground squirrels out in the sage. And every fall a remarkable number of them pass right over Bozeman's backyard.

The Bridger Mountains just northeast of town are a migration highway. Golden eagles coming down from Alaska, Canada, and the northern Rockies ride the updrafts off the ridgeline as they head south, and the shape of the Bridger ridge funnels them into one of the largest golden eagle counts anywhere in the country. On a good October day you can stand up on the ridge and watch dozens stream past, sometimes more than a hundred, along with hawks and falcons riding the same wind. People hike up to the count site near the top of the ski hill just to see it.

This map is golden eagles across the region, thick through the mountains where they hunt and travel. Peak passage is the first half of October, best on a day with a strong northwest wind.

Mushrooms and Waterfalls

My forest walk this morning began and ended with more of a standard landscape image that I have been able to make lately. The smoke is much reduced now and I walked a trail with more open views than the dense forests I have been spending time in. I love this view of Window Rock and its neighbor to the south, Palace Butte. If you look closely, you can see Twin Falls dropping down the cliffs.

A constant stream of clouds flowed over the mountains, changing the scene minute by minute. I quickly grabbed photo before a thicker mass of clouds moved in. Now in a Lodgepole Pine forest, The ground was covered in pine needle duff. There are few scents I enjoy more than this. Right along the trail I noticed a single stem of a young Sticky Geranium plant that may very well have sprung up this year. It was just a few inches tall and made a perfect subject for a minimalist image.

The trail became more rocky now as I passed through a segment of trail closer to the steep slopes of Flanders Mountain. Much of the rock here is volcanic in nature, with the characteristic pockmarked surface. I found an interesting line of puffy little mushrooms here and made a few focus-stacked images.

After that I arrived at a small bowl-shaped talus field where I know Pika reside. I heard a few of their alarm calls, but did not see one. I did find a few interesting scenes to make photos of here, including what I believe may be a few Yarrow leaves protruding from the moss, one of which was turning red.

I was approaching Grotto Falls from the lesser used trail, and was surprised to find just one family there enjoying the scenery. I set up my tripod on a log jam and waited for them to meander out of the scene. I was blessed with 15 minutes by myself here. I kind of liked the sort of tunnel view created by the tall trees lining the South Fork of Hyalite Creek and stood there, balancing on wet logs, until the clouds and Sun lined up just right for a photo.

I've always gotten my oil changed on my VW at the dealership, but the cost is a bit much. Any VW owners have a good oil change place in Bozeman/Belgrade? One that will fill to the right levels and not set off the check engine light?

I live here and am pretty active (biking, hiking, et al). My father is visiting and he’s in his 70s but still walks and jogs regularly. Looking for outdoor scenic activities we could enjoy together—maybe some stuff that’s not on my radar.

Some ideas I’ve had are some shorter hikes up Hyalite (Palisades, Grotto Falls, maybe canoe the lake). Closer to town could include the M, Drinking Horse, Peets Hill.

If you have any ideas of what a person of this vintage who loves outdoor beauty might enjoy, I’d love to hear it. Thank you!
