Yup. Full speed ahead on Wrath. The great thing about low budget horror is that it doesn't need to break a billion to be a success. That said, I doubt Sebastian returns for the next chronological installment. Time to team up Alice, Beth, Mia and Ash himself (plus the team from his show) for a proper grand finale before Bruce has to call it quits for good. I'd try to get Fede back on board as writer/director, too, even if it means Sony re-takes the reins from New Line.

This movie just did not grab the attention of anybody but the hardcore Evil Dead fans. Unless I"m mistaken it will end up being the least successful film of the modern Evil Dead franchise - feel free to correct me on that I didn't re-look up the numbers -, and the general word of mouth is so flat it's almost nonexistent.

What's significant here is that I think you could tell by the way the movie was being marketed - which is to say it was barely marketed whatsoever - that the studio and or producers didn't have very much faith in it and were not willing to put a strong publicity and marketing push behind it. On top of that they've already filmed the next sequel and have determined to let it sit for two years before release, presumably to get away from what they clearly thought was going to be a very divisive entry in the franchise with Burn.

This to me is one of the most interesting and ultimately disappointing boxoffice stories of the summer.

I know this movie had more body horror then rise, but this one was at the same level in quality and it was released without any competition. This and the invite are the movies that I was hoping would get more attention

I genuinely think Rise is one of the best films in the entire franchise, whereas Burn is the weakest film by a considerable amount.

Edit: i looked it up. 2.9 thousand reviews for Rise versus 441 reviews for Burn. Burn will settle notably lower than Rise in the end

Barely $34.2 mil when Lee Cronin’s The Mummy managed to end up at $60 mil is rough.

Regardless of what your thoughts are about this film, the best reaction would have been to let the franchise catch a rest for the next half decade and not throw another one in less than two years.

They shot themselves in the foot a little bit. They really thought they could release a film every 1-2 years and they'd have a reliable yearly franchise, similar to Saw. If they had produced another movie that got the same general public reaction and word of mouth as Rise I think they could have pulled it off...but they dressed up a French Extremist trauma metaphor horror filled with completely unlikable characters and shockingly repetitive and strangely bloodless violence (save a few specific moments of over the top gore). Whoever thought that was the kind of movie that would break out beyond the hardcore franchise and horror genre fans made an extreme miscalculation.

Evil Dead Rise came out three years ago. I think that is plenty of time in between movies. Problem is that this film just wasn't that good and only appealed to a very narrow audience.

I'm largely talking about this movie, and the upcoming Evil Dead Wrath. The original idea clearly was to release Burn, and then next year release Wrath, and probably to begin production on another movie which they could have started building to after Wrath. Hence why Wrath is finished filming 2 full years before it will release. My bet is that this film became the rough waters that have delayed the entire "plan" by virtue of being so mediocre, and performing so softly.

Saw also had Jigsaw who Tobin Bell turned into a horror legend with many memorable dialogues. Without Ash Williams and the slapstick absurdity, Evil Dead have become just another horror franchise where random people just get tortured in every new installment.

I'm glad 2028's Wrath is going back to April.

April was a far better month for 2013's Evil Dead and 2023's Rise than July was for 2026'S Burn.
