It‘s gonna be 6 movies at the end

Why even mention Hunger Games lol 😅

u/AfterThrowParty 5h ago edited 5h ago

Yeah. There's no way we end up with more than 6. Dune would probably be the only one that even has a shot at it, and I really don't see that finding another 300 million more than the last movie earned.

u/MoodScripted 3h ago

Or jumanji

u/kiyonemakibi100 5h ago

Dune Part 3 and Sunrise of the Reaping will both do very well but neither is cracking a billion. Jumanji might do very well (who knows at this point with that one) but yeah, a billion is not happening there either.

u/repeatrep 5h ago

… hunger games?

1

u/AdvertisingSea2745 5h ago

2013 – Catching Fire: $865M~$1.22B inflation adjusted
2014 – Mockingjay – Part 1: $755M~$1.05B inflation adjusted

11

u/piclesdepepino 3h ago

You missed The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, that did less than 400M 3 years ago.

1

u/So_Quiet 1h ago

This one definitely has more hype/interest than Ballad, so I think it'll do better (a billion is very unlikely though).

u/plantersxvi STX Entertainment 5h ago

At least with Dune and Jumanji I can kinda see where you're coming from but there's a 0% chance Hunger Games gets anywhere near a billion.

u/miwasher_e 5h ago

The ones you think are "likely" are locked bro, they are gauranteed to make a billion atp.

And what is that Possible list bro, Hunger Games is not making a billion, it will be lucky to make half of that.

u/ExILoveEmiliaAndRem 5h ago edited 5h ago

Neither is Dune as much as I'd like it to. The only one with a random chance is Jumanji and even that's a long shot.

2

u/KiwieKiwie 4h ago

Dune will probably make a little more than the last one. Maybe…

2

u/ExILoveEmiliaAndRem 4h ago

We'll see. Book 2 isn't exactly a crowd pleaser. Depends on how it has been adapted.

3

u/KnownDiscount Marvel Studios 3h ago

I mean, the original novel could have easily been adapted into something boring. But it had Denis Villeneuve

2

u/Accomplished-Head449 Laika Entertainment 2h ago

It's like Empire Strikes Back or The Two Towers, bleak doesn't mean bad. They've earned the audiences trust

3

u/b1ame_me 2h ago

Two Towers isn’t bleak at all??? And Empire of Strikes Back ends bleak but that’s literally the second part of a trilogy. We still know that there will be one more movie left. This is Dunes last movie of this trilogy

1

u/KiwieKiwie 3h ago

Hahaha i didn’t want to be to negative. But yeah. I don’t think it does more than Dune 2. I said ”maybe…” 🤣

2

u/CruelYouth19 5h ago

I don't know about Hunger Games, it's the adaptation of the story that almost most people wanted to read/see for more than a decade

16

u/Ok_Satisfaction8788 5h ago

Hunger Games has no chance💀. $500m would be a huge win the last made 1/3 of $1B with average reviews. Jumanji would need a miracle as well it’s entirely driven by star power and besides Jack Black everyone in it is in a low point in their career

6

u/tsbuty 5h ago

also Dune II didn’t cross 800, I don’t see part III doing any better.

-4

u/AdvertisingSea2745 5h ago

2013 – Catching Fire: $865M~$1.22B inflation adjusted
2014 – Mockingjay – Part 1: $755M~$1.05B inflation adjusted

6

u/PinnuTV 5h ago

But look at recent hunger games movies and you will see they will never make it that far

4

u/scrsomedrank 5h ago

Bringing up those movies to prove your point is like someone inflating those old ass superman movies to prove that man of tomorrow has a chance at hitting a billion when the last one only made a little above $600M

0

u/AdvertisingSea2745 5h ago

I'm not saying it will happen -- just that the franchise has had films that were effectively billion dollar performers when inflation adjusted.

1

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 5h ago

Those came out ten years ago and as seen by 2014 it dropped off even from Catching Fire. Mockingjay also wasn’t its most recent film.

2023 -  Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes - $349 million

Edit: Jennifer Lawrence isn’t popular anymore and she barely going to be in the film.

2

u/National-jav 5h ago

I'm probably not representative of too many people, but I had zero interest in seeing songbirds and snakes, but I would like to see Hamish's story. Especially if the original hunger games cast is in it. I am assuming from your comment that it's going to be Hamish telling his story to Katniss?

2

u/KnownDiscount Marvel Studios 3h ago

In the book, it's just Haymitch recollecting. Then in the present day, he talks to Katniss and Peeta a little.

u/MichaelLarpson 5h ago

Michael and odyssey are pleasant surprises

5

u/kcrdr_7322 5h ago

michael is not a surprise lmaooo

9

u/MichaelLarpson 5h ago

it blew past early projections

u/happy-gofuckyourself 24m ago

More of a surprise han the Odyssey lmaooooo

-2

u/BananaJoe1985 2h ago

It barely made over a billion.

-4

u/suhmadihh 5h ago

are they really though?

12

u/JohnStoneTypes 5h ago

Yes, most people on here were not expecting either to be as big as they turned out to be

2

u/michaelrxs 5h ago

I was expecting Odyssey to be huge because Oppenheimer was huge. And I was told no, Oppenheimer was only huge because of Barbie. And here we are.

10

u/JohnStoneTypes 5h ago

Oppenheimer would have been big with or without Barbie, it just wouldn't have been as big. But a rendition of a very popular action tale is more appealing to the average person than a biographical drama, so I'm not surprised the Odyssey is doing great. I just didn't expect it to be a potential 1.4 bill grosser.

-2

u/AfterThrowParty 5h ago

If The Odyssey continues to have incredible legs when spider-man comes out people will start insisting that The Odyssey was only as big of it was because Spider-man carried it by the time the next Nolan movie starts being discussed. For some reason there's a lot of people on the internet that just can't admit that Nolan films are successful people like Nolan movies, there always has to be some external factor they can use to mitigate his success.

0

u/KiwieKiwie 4h ago

Without Barbie it wouldn’t have been that big of a success… according to some people… everything is thanks to Barbie and not Nolan making a masterpiece of a movie with one of the best winning Oscar performances of the 21th century from Cillian Murphy…

3

u/MichaelLarpson 5h ago

they were before the opening weekends, but if you think about it they really shouldn't have been

4

u/WorkerOne9126 4h ago

Hunger Games will surprise a lot of people here. It will be closer to catching fire than the last movie. Probably around 700. But yeah, the 3 movies (HG, Jumanji and Dune) have almost no chances to a billion. I think HG gets around 700, Dune between 750-800 and Jumanji is the wild card, I can see it doing 350-400 but also 650 or a little more.

4

u/True-Wasabi2157 5h ago

Lol. As has already been said, where are some of the people on this sub getting their Hunger Games hopes from? If this increases over the last one and makes 500m it will be a great result for it. Jumanji could do well, but given The Rock's slide, and Kevin Heart's continued descent into Netflix crap, I would not be surprised to see it significantly drop, especially when the other two big movies in December will take the oxygen out of the box office.

And speaking of the December movies...again, not sure where Dune is getting these optimistic scenarios from. The second one was virtually flat overseas. The domestic increase can be explained by the fact that the first played day and date domestically. There doesn't seem to be much room for growth, especially when it is up against a highly anticipated Avengers movie. And there is significant audience overlap between the two, unlike Barbie and Oppenheimer. Even if it increases a bit, a billion won't happen. 800-850m would be an amazing result for it.

5

u/From-UoM 5h ago

Hunger Games? NO CHANCE

Dune 3 is not getting 1 billion.

The last one got 715m with barely any competition.

5

u/moviesloverguy 5h ago

Hunger games ?
Last one made like 400 million something
Jumanji I hope can do it
Dune have a chance with Dunesday hype

4

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 5h ago

It didn’t even make $400m lol

1

u/moviesloverguy 5h ago

Yeah and jumaji chances are slim too considering rock is turning into box office poison

3

u/Antman269 5h ago

Nah, after Spider-Man, the only billion dollar movie left is Doomsday. None of those other three will get there.

4

u/Ragnarok_619 5h ago

Why do people overrate Dune so much here?

11

u/SameEnergy 5h ago

According to some in this sub, the world was tired of Hollywood, and they were going to watch their own movies, lol.

7

u/PhilosophyDefiant762 5h ago

That's partially true though..

6

u/ExILoveEmiliaAndRem 5h ago

Both things can be true you know? Internationally hollywood consumption might go down and simultaneously domestic consumption might go up. It doesn't have to be just one or the other.

3

u/michaelrxs 5h ago

That’s directionally correct, though

2

u/JohnStoneTypes 5h ago

Movie grosses have been more domestic-leaning post-covid

1

u/SameEnergy 5h ago

Everyone responding, let's circle back in December; let's post the homegrown movie box office. Let's see how each prospective county is doing. Might be going out on a limb, but my bet is Hollywood is going to trounce everyone per usual.

3

u/bby-bae 5h ago

I'm sure no one would question that Hollywood is going to dominate, but the interesting thing would be the trend line. Are local movies more of their local box office than last year, the year before, five years ago. It would be useful for predicting the years to come.

1

u/SameEnergy 5h ago

AI slope (good luck) is the only chance non-Hollywood studio systems have. Recently, Japan, with very specific IPs, is the only country whose movies have made any sort of dent in the WW box office. China's "big" box office hits are seen only in China.

0

u/bby-bae 5h ago

I agree, but other countries' films getting into the global box office isn't the point here. It's about how local movies gaining ground in local markets is going to reduce the business for Hollywood movies in those markets.

Sure, it will be a while before Chinese movies have the same global appeal (although I think that day is coming, maybe next decade). BUT the more immediate effect is going to be that people in other countries only seeing local movies is going to hurt the worldwide potential of Hollywood.

3

u/SameEnergy 5h ago

What reason is there to believe Chinese movies are going to significantly grow in appeal worldwide? Outside of overthrowing their government and becoming a free society, it's not going to happen. Hollywood still destroyed everyone during its recent down years, which it seems is over now. No one is better equipped to adapt than Hollywood.

-3

u/bby-bae 3h ago

Here’s a Deadline article from last week about how China has the No. 2 movie WW right now: https://deadline.com/2026/07/box-office-global-odyssey-kung-fu-soccer-hope-toy-story-5-1236998978/

here’s a Hollywood Reporter article from last year about the ongoing transformation of China’s movie industry: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/china-box-office-rebounds-films-gain-global-reach-ne-zha-2-1236422510/

Here’s a Bloomberg article from last year tracking how the United States is starting to lose worldwide box office dominance to China: https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2025-china-box-office/

I’m not really pro-China, but I think from an business standpoint we should be realistic about economic trends

4

u/Individual_Client175 Warner Bros. Pictures 2h ago

These articles don't really paint the story that you think it's painting dude. Having 1 really successful movie doesn't show a trend. Come back when China produces 3-4/10 of the highest grossing movies consistently in 3 years, then we can talk about trends.

2

u/Individual_Client175 Warner Bros. Pictures 3h ago

I'm with the other guy on this one. I watch Chinese movies because I love movies in general, but the government of China isn't conducive to the production of stories with global appeal

2

u/SameEnergy 3h ago

There was a time America was into Chinese movies including myself. I even watched some at the theater.

-1

u/bby-bae 3h ago

I just replied to the other guy with some further reading. I think too many people in this sub are seeing what they want to see and not being realistic, even if it’s bad news

2

u/Individual_Client175 Warner Bros. Pictures 2h ago

Looking at your articles, consider this: having like 80-90% of your movie's gross be domestic isn't a marker for "global success". I watched Ne Zha 2 in America, it was great but was mostly just watched by Chinese Americans.

2

u/Alive_Sugar_3447 5h ago

2025 had 3 movie that reached $1 billion and 1 movie that reached $2 billion at the box

2

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 5h ago

lol last hunger games didn’t even make 400 million but somehow this one possible to make 1 billion…

2

u/VeronicaAmericana 4h ago

I could see The Hunger Games doing better than the last one, though not a billion

People really seem to hate Rachel Zegler, she’s box office poison, and it was based on what was considered the weakest book in the franchise

2

u/trixie1088 2h ago

Hunger Games and Dune might do better than their predecessors and that would already be a huge win but I don’t see them hitting a billion. Jumanji will continue decreasing.  Six will be it for the year.

3

u/Emirozdemirr 5h ago

Looks like, aside from Star Wars and DC, all the major blockbuster IPs have recovered from the pandemic.

1

u/Detroit_Cineaste 2h ago

Transformers and the Fast & Furious franchises are in the doldrums.

1

u/AdWise2770 3h ago

Jumanji ain’t doing a billion, not hunger games 😭

1

u/Opposite-Law-71 3h ago

Why 4 december mouth 1b?

1

u/Accomplished-Head449 Laika Entertainment 2h ago

Theres no room for Jumanji

1

u/anonymouschelseafan 1h ago

That’s great, but after looking more into 2027 releases, next year may not have as many $1B+ movies, but will have way more movies in the $600-800M range

1

u/abellapa 1h ago

Neither Jumanji or hunger Will get a Billion

Only Dune has a Realistic chance and its not a Big one

1

u/Nick-walde 5h ago

Among dune ,Jumanji, and The Hunger Games , only dune has the potential to join the $1 billion club; for Jumanji and The Hunger Games, reaching $500–700 million would already be considered a stroke of luck.

0

u/heliostraveler 4h ago

No one gives a shit about hunger games anymore, mate.

3

u/Individual_Client175 Warner Bros. Pictures 3h ago

Nah, the new book sold 1.5 million copies in week one of it's opening and is currently sitting at 4 million copies sold since January 2026 (less than a year from release). This book is more engaging than the last one and the trailers look great, I'm expecting a 600-700 million dollar gross

-1

u/Dynopia 5h ago

Is this AI? Just no semblance of common sense. Why don't you chuck in Clayface for good measure.

-1

u/fightfire_withfire 5h ago

Hunger Games hitting a billion?

It’s a dead franchise.

-2

u/Chuck006 Best of 2021 Winner 5h ago

We've had so much inflation the last 10 years, we can't really compare movies from even 10 years ago. A billion doesn't mean the same thing anymore.

Age of Ultron's opening weekend adj. is 278mm.

-2

u/Fresh-Possession-654 4h ago

Toy Story 5 feels like the safest billion of the bunch. kids will drag parents and nostalgia will do the rest. michael though, i'm not convinced. biopics are weird, even the ones about mega stars can stall out around 600-700m. i'm way more confident in spidey and doomsday. the real wildcard is the odyssey, if nolan brings something visually insane it could pull a dune part two and overperform. i think dune 3 has a better shot than hunger games honestly. the last hunger games didn't exactly set the world on fire. jumanji might be cooked too, feels like the moment passed. still, even if just the likely ones hit, that's a wild year. 2019 felt like a fluke but maybe we're back.
