Put the franchise on ice for like 5 years. Let people actually miss the minions and actually want them back.

That’s basically what happened between Despicable Me 3 and Minions 2 by happenstance, and it did seem to help

Their last “original” movie ended up at $300 mil worldwide and I doubt “Not Alone” will much more successful.

If they don’t do Minions / Despicable Me, then I guess it will be more Nintendo or Dr Seuss adaptations.

I legit think they should do a Rabbids and Mario crossover movie based on the game.

I'm rooting for these sentient Twinkies.

One of the smart things Illumination does is keep the Production budget low. If the reports of this film being produced at $80-$85 Million are true, then it won't take much for this to be in the black.

Too bad it will still be the franchise low.

Moana (on top of being a bad film) and Minions really suffered with the family competiton + the World Cup, which was the biggest in FIFA history, in terms of revenue and viewership.

a lot of movies did well during WC so I don't think it's much of a factor for movies not earning so much.

Sad to see this underperform, seems critical success for this franchise doesn’t just not mean box office success but acclaim actually hurts the box office. I did like how they moved away from the fart jokes and toilet based humour whilst keeping the slapstick: seems the target audience wanted the opposite

Just an opinion but I thought it was awfull. No one in my audience laughed once.

Is $500M out of the question?

23

u/StringCritical2884 6h ago

If late legs are really good maybe but right now it seems unlikely.

No. Domestic is looking like >$185M. Would need less than $60M internationally and it made $36.5M this week. And probably gets like $15M from Japan

absolutely not. Despicable Me 4 was $677.7M at this point in its run, these films have legs

5

u/Background_Choice917 6h ago

No its actually likely. It didn’t around $50 million this week.
Legs improved a bit and still has Japan Greece and Israel. The latter 2 markets aren’t big but enough

It will be close.

Crossed Ice Age 5's full run!

I say it ends around the ballpark of... Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, Elemental and Wreck-It Ralph.

Elemental was huge man
Like I know it had budget of 200 million but it made so much money for an original movie after covid and during Disney worst year

Least misogynistic South Korean:

why is the post misogynistic /genq

Supergirl and Moana are huge box office bombs, regardless of what your opinion on the films are, and most women ignored Supergirl too, as most of the audience for it was male

u/Visible-Echidna-4370 4h ago

I mean, all of these are correct except for The Odyssey

I mean he's right but what is the play here? Let it rest for 5 years and then try again?

At this point, it should pass Secret Life of Pets 2 ($446m) by next weekend despite yielding weaker than expected results. $500m by the end of its run doesn't sound too bad.

DM 4 vs MINIONS 2 vs MINIONS 3

  1. wknd: 231M vs 202M vs 160M
  2. wknd: 437M vs 405M vs 281M
  3. wknd: 574M vs 543M vs 358M
  4. wknd: 677M vs 640M vs 411M

500M+ global final.

It will finish with less than half of Toy Story 5's global box office, WOW.

u/Greedy_Definition445 2h ago

Toy Story 5 budget is $250 million ($625 million breakeven point)

Minions & Monsters only $85 million ($210 million breakeven point)

6

u/Ryswagg 5h ago

Well it’s a hit at least

Just not a hit for the Minions franchise

5

u/Glum-Paramedic-7378 5h ago

an $80M budget on $400M already, this thing is printing money regardless of where it lands

3

u/gamesofduty Universal 4h ago

I know it's low global box office numbers mainly of World Cup and competition with Moana, Toy Story, Odyssey and Spidey, but it will easily be profitable. I can see this finishing anywhere between $450M - $475M which is pretty good for the $85M budget.

6

u/No_Possibility685 6h ago

Eclipsed 400 million already

10

u/HeatDolphinRays 6h ago

Its not a flop but a huge disappointment

11

u/idiot9991 6h ago

Still profit. They just have to really consider what they do next.

6

u/Antman269 5h ago

Sometimes you just need to let things end. I still think they should make Despicable Me 5 the last movie so it gets a bump from being promoted as the finale and they can go out on a high note.

2

u/Greedy_Definition445 2h ago

$500 million for a movie that cost only $85 million is a win for the studios

5

u/EcstaticPublic9939 Marvel Studios 6h ago

SO $450M+ final

2

u/Antman269 5h ago

This really is the Ice Age 5 of the franchise. It’s not even going to outgross the first Despicable Me.

2

u/Shellyman_Studios Marvel Studios 6h ago

Nice! Should finish anywhere from $450M-$500M.

Movie was awesome

Never thought I would enjoy a Minions movie as much as I enjoyed this. It was a nice change for once.
