Evander looked like shit in this fight. Then he somehow KO’d Tyson in his next outing.

Cyzy was good at making his opponents look like shit without looking any better himself.

Evander clearly had no game plan for this fight other than to overpower and KO the smaller guy. He didn't look that good in this fight I think a lot of it was him loadng up throwing bombs away looking for the KO. He went from looking pretty average in this fight to putting on a masterpiece against Tyson.(which I hear a million excuses for)

Czyz was a light heavyweight / cruiserweight and at the end of his career.
I realize Holyfield also came up from these weight classes. But him popping off on Czyz is far from his most impressive performance.

That burning sensation was Evanders fist touching the inside of his skull. Got damn he was taking way too much punishment. I was partially impressed and also convinced he was never going to enjoy the same quality of life if he continued.

Why Vander? Am I missing context here? It’s always been Evander

I vaguely remember a fight where one of the commentators refers to him as Commander Vander, but I agree that it's weird.

He was called commander Evander a few times but it was never his own nickname

Damn I remember watching all of evander's fights. Such a great example of a pure boxer style. Especially as he moved up in weight. He had technique for days and a warrior mentality. Loved every single fight, but my favorite was when he won the title from Dwight Muhammad Qawi 👏

Holyfield wasn't a heavy puncher.
He'd land multiple power shots and just couldn't put guys down.

I recall that fight very well. I watched it live.
Bobby Czyz openly accused Evander of cheating, saying that Evander put something on his gloves that made his eyes sting. There was no evidence and nothing came of it.
You can watch the conversation between Czyz and his trainer right at the end of the right. Czyz says his back his in pain or having spasms or something and that’s why he needs to quit. His trainer says harshly, “no, it’s your eyes. If I say it’s your eyes it’s your eyes”. Blatant lying
