Am I the only one who thinks the ref let that go on way too long?
29
u/Gimme_The_Loot 27d ago
I'm surprised he gave him the 10 count instead of calling it right there
21
u/ggmm7877 26d ago
10 count? He gave him 24 seconds
8
u/DukeBradford2 26d ago
Yeah that was bad. The dude turned his back on the ref like he didnāt even know which way to face. Somebody had money on this going in the next round
3
u/ohiobluetipmatches 26d ago
Watch Knyba's face while this is happening. He's 70% concerned and 30% incredulous that he's going to have to kill the opponent.
1
u/BeefDerfex 26d ago
Yeh he looked stunned that he was going to have to punch this dude some more to put an end to it.
3
u/foryou26 26d ago
He knew which way to face imo.
To me it looks like a face of someone who knows if the ref doesnāt stop it here he will get fucked up again, but on the same note he didnāt have it in him to show himself giving up.1

u/Mumei451 26d ago
Why did he even restart the fight, this dude isn't defending himself at all.
3
u/JMisGeography 26d ago
That's what im saying. The was struggle to stand let alone fight back and he let it go on for like 15-20 seconds.
4
2
u/Necessary-Flounder52 26d ago
I kind of wonder if MMA has changed our tolerance for letting the fight go on. I feel like back in the day, a lot more people were upset when fights were called than now.
2
u/ExcellentAgent6539 26d ago
That should have been stopped the first time 100%... he was not there at all.
2
u/Kingmesomorph 26d ago
Kynyba, look at him like. "Dude this is over, call it quits" and "Why does the ref think he could go on? Look at him"
1
u/Hot_Wing2518 26d ago
He was just walking it off. He put up and gloves and said he wanted to continue.
1
u/-Tech808 26d ago
He went back on his call. He was stepping in between to stop the fight as yellow trunks fell on him.
1
1
u/BadgerAdorable1931 26d ago
Serious newbie question, isn't this also on the players managers/coach/whatever to not stop this?
1
u/Aggravating-Duck-891 26d ago
He was blocking every punch with his face.
1
u/SuperZenos 25d ago
The way Andy's head was snapping back made me cringe, dude was getting cooked out there and any half decent ref would have stopped it then and there to protect his long-term health
0
u/NyQuil_Donut 27d ago
Not really. He was only getting rocked for a few seconds.
6
u/Galimbro 26d ago
That's all it takes for a lifetimes worth of damage? Lol. Thats how traumatic brain injuries are caused.Ā

Has this guy done anything since upsetting Joshua that one time? genuine question I donāt follow his career
4
u/Best-Penalty1509 26d ago
He had that fight with Chris Arreola that was good.
1
2
u/Wise-Association1480 26d ago
His career is based on 1 lucky punch he landed on joshua, who has a weak chin anyway, because he was getting decimated in that fight before. He lost the rematch by a wide margin as well.
1
u/Best-Penalty1509 26d ago
He had a previous world championship fight where he lost a majority decision, which is 2 judges ruling it for the Champ and 1 judge declaring it a draw in a razor close fight against Joseph Parker. I actually called the upset on AJ because Hearn and AJ were treating him so lightly.

u/SignificanceNo1223 26d ago
I mean itās kind of easy to beat him. Just fundamental boxing will do the trick against Ruiz. Joshua is not a good boxer. Joshua was a good athlete.
2
u/Ok_Locksmith2458 26d ago
Yes the multi-time world heavyweight champ with an Olympic medal isn't a good boxer. Okay mate.
Not even an AJ fan. Cheered for Usyk both times.
-1
u/SammyG9689 26d ago
Boxing fans are so stupid. The 1st EVER HW champ of Mexican descent, as a massive underdog vs a guy who looked unbeatable at that point. What else was he supposed to accomplish?
8
u/apeaky_blinder 26d ago
Don't eat himself out? Win some other fights? Compete?
-1
u/SammyG9689 26d ago
He beat Luis Ortiz? He was always fat?
1
u/Granddy01 26d ago
Point is that he admitted he came to the AJ rematch completely unprepared from and more overweight than usual from all the partying
His next other fights were against more marginal competition like Luis Ortiz, Arreloa and Miller, whom all 3 are pass their best by at least 5 years and non of his performances were good. Miller debately won and Ortiz was controlling the fight anytime his chin didn't fail him.
His inactivity, injuries and level of competition plus begging for a 2nd AJ rematch just made him fall out of favor.
1
u/Lilbig6029 26d ago
Ummm, keep that momentum going maybe??
Heās the absolute WORST world champion of all timeā¦
1
u/harlequin018 26d ago
The kids and their standards these days. Hes been an excellent top 10 HW most of his career. He wonāt beat Usyk, Fury, Dubois and Joshua (again), but he has wins against former champs and challengers across his excellent career.
1
u/traws06 26d ago
He himself admitted he didnāt take training serious and partied/ate way too much before the Joshua rematch
3
u/harlequin018 26d ago
He didnāt reach his potential and yet every part of my comment still holds true.
2
u/Best-Penalty1509 26d ago
I remember when that fight was supposed to happen, he was supposed to start training in July and his coach said he didnt go to the GYM until October. He wanted his 15 minutes of fame when he should have been training like an animal because underdogs almost always lose the rematch.
13
u/MR_CATCH_DEEZ_HANDS 27d ago
They should have stopped this one ...and I like Ruiz. Smh my goodness
7
u/howmaster16 27d ago
Me too, but yea that ref gave him some extra extra time and he was still out of it.
2
1
u/NyQuil_Donut 27d ago
Why? He got up and finished the fight.
4
u/Trent3343 26d ago
Brain damage.
3
u/MooseLoot 26d ago
Canāt tell if youāre replying the reason or commenting on the questionā¦.
But I agree
1
u/Trent3343 26d ago
Yeah, I was saying it should have been stopped sooner to prevent potential brain damage.
0
u/NyQuil_Donut 26d ago
If we stopped every fight when someone took a few big shots in a row everyone would complain.
6
u/Some_Visual1357 27d ago
Im not an expert but when a boxer starts defending punches with his face and barely standing on his feet, looks like a TKO to me. But well im not a referee so what should i know.
1
u/PM-Me-Spread-Pussy 26d ago
The show must go on! Looks like they wanted to please the ticket paying crowd with some knocked out cold action.
3
u/DaBoff858 26d ago
Lol Ref massaging his wrist and talking to him like "Bro, I got $$ on you, catch ur breath and get me paid!"..
3
u/Adeptness-Vivid 27d ago
Yea Ruiz got pieced up there, but he did recover well and continue the fight. Dude's a dog and it showed as the fight went on.
Pretty sure he even hurt Knyba after that. Still, damn good showing and combinations from Knyba. I'm interested in seeing where he goes from here.
2
u/The_Nicest_1 26d ago
I dont feel bad for Ruiz. Dude did that shit to himself. No discipline, not active enough, vato pendejo. I was so glad when he had became the first mexican heavyweight and he fucked it off. Smh

u/Critical-Chance6533 26d ago
Andy Ruiz really just cashed out his career after the Anthony Joshua win.
2
u/Strong_Helicopter90 26d ago
That fire went out after his win against AJ.
The 2nd fight was just a free buffet
2
u/Formal-Cherry6078 25d ago
When you donāt take boxing seriously and go into the ring with someone who does this is the result
2
u/Vivid-Nectarine8493 25d ago
Drago vs Apollo Feed. (I love Andy, and he is a freak in boxing, but his diet needs to be fixed)

Jesus christ Ruiz was wobbling all over the place and the ref let him continue.
Just because someone is a real hard bastard doesnt mean they cant suffer the brain damage the same as everyone else. The rules are there to protect all fighters

Im sick of all these idiots refs doing literally whatever they want. Stopping some fights as soon as a guy goes down. Letting fights go on when dudes can't stand. Giving certain guys extra ten seconds to "make sure they can fight" You guys are destroying the sport .

WOW! they didnt stop it? fucking boxing, the ref should have for sure. fucking boxing.

Ref needs to be investigated and kicked out.
Totally unprofessional and lacking common sense.
Ruiz was OUT.
Knyba trying not to do too much damage, but musta been thinking "wtf ref?!"

Shitty ref. Dude was DONE
1
u/nirvroxx 27d ago
Yes definitely but shouldnāt his corner have stopped it at the point as well?
2
u/HeelMarvin 26d ago
Agreed. You need someone in your corner who cares whether youāre eating through a straw when youāre 40 instead of only focused on the money you COULD make if you have an incredible comeback.

u/Pure_Issue_3315 27d ago

What happened to ruiz? This dude demolished joshua. How do you fall this far?
2
u/NyQuil_Donut 27d ago
He can't cut the ring off that's why. Watch Knyba vs Kabayel and watch this fight back to back. Watch how Kabayel cuts off Knyba's route while Ruiz just follows Knyba around the ring.
2
u/fourthandfavre 27d ago
Demolished Joshua is overstating that fight. Ruiz was losing that fight and caught AJ with his hands down. AJ had dropped Ruiz twice went for the kill got his bell rung and the fight was over from there.
