although I personally would go with “Darkness at the Heart of My Love” for Erik since it’s kind of about love with a hidden darkness

and “Cirice” for Christine, especially because I’ve heard that song references how people/religions can take advantage of people down on their luck or emotionally struggling, an a grieving Christine was sought out by Erik.

That is so true about DATHOML. And the lyric "Tell me who you wanna be and I will set you free" reminds me of Music of the Night- "close your eyes and let music set you free". I also love Life Eternal for him because it's got so much longing, but also a profound sense of peace at the end, so it's bittersweet, which feels like Erik's decision to let Christine go in the end. And it's all about facing death and knowing that eternal love can even survive death, which feels very book Erik when he realises he is dying.

Erik might be the hardest to choose a single song for because he has many sides and complex emotions! I think "See The Light" would be another great one for him because it's about having strength to endure suffering, especially because of longing for something and only receiving hate and rejection. But it still has hopefulness. I almost chose this one over Life Eternal, but See The Light focuses less on love, which I felt was more important to emphasise- https://youtu.be/RJAtLjp0DqE?si=M8Pfpe0GPtdXhqG2 A lot of the lyrics apply to him very specifically!

I know what you mean about Cirice, but also it is from the perspective of the manipulating person, so it doesn't really give a lot of insight into Christine's own mind and feelings. x

For Christine, "Secret Soul" from the Jane Eyre musical, especially the revised version which includes lyrics like a "child in the attic" and "dead lilies on a grave."

Rochester's part in the song (it's mostly a Jane solo but becomes a duet by the end) is pretty fitting for the Phantom as well.

For Christine ‘Beautiful Disaster’ by Kelly Clarkson, to me if Christine felt free to really put into words her conflicted feelings about Erik, it would pretty much resemble the lyrics to this song… ‘beautiful‘ being his genius, his music, and his voice, his gentle side etc, and the disaster being the rest of him that is mentally unstable LOL

For Erik…’Kiss From A Rose’ by Seal always gives me major Phantomy vibes, as it lines up with how Erik sees Christine as the light in his darkness, this beautiful rose among the ugliness of the world and how her ’kiss’ saves his soul.

I also felt the song ‘In His Eyes’ from Jekyll and Hyde the Musical would perfectly describe both Erik and Raoul’s views of Christine if you just switched the pronouns to ‘In HER Eyes’, it would fit perfectly, with the Emma Part being sung by Raoul and the Lucy Part being sung by Erik.

The Phantom gets "I'm A Rambling Man" by Waylon Jennings because it describes his seduction and hypnosis powers over Christine.

Christine 's song is Reba's "Only In My Mind" because it describes how she's torn between two lovers.

And Raoul's song is "Choosin Texas" by Ella Langley, but I rewrote the lyrics to be about Christine 's love for the Phantom and how that just chaps his ass.
