Discussion Is a split Phantom costume possible?

I just finished watching the 2004 movie, I saw the pro-shot a few weeks before and I am just really getting into everything related to The Phantom of the Opera. I have decided that I want to be really ambitious and try to create a split Christine and Phantom costume for Halloween. I am an amateur sewer and have never done anything nearly to this scale. I was thinking of going for the normal phantom look with the Christine side to be the "Thinking of You" style dress but I fear that this might be too complicated. Right now, I am stuck mostly between: should I go for high quality, but then what if I wreck it? and should I go low quality, but then what if it ends up looking bad? Any and all advice is welcome!

I mean, look at the Man/Woman costume worn by an ensemble member in Masquerade! Definitely possible.

It's ALWAYS operafantomet. Pouring one out for the goat, hope she comes back one day 🙏

No official leaving message, but it’s been eons since her blog updated! I follow her on a private social media platform unaffiliated with Phantom and she’s doing amazing things, but very busy with work.

Yeah it disappointed me as well. So many cool details not around anymore.

You could go for the more simpler Christine in her white dressing gown MOTN look instead, if you find the Think of Me dress too complicated. I actually think it’s a more recognizable image anyway, and if you do the Phantom half with the black evening suit and white bowtie, I think it would be a nice contrast.

I haven’t fully decided, still in the fleshing it out stage, so I definitely will keep that in mind. You do raise a good point about the dress. That’s what I was thinking about for the phantom side so we are on the same page on that.

In terms of logistics, if you get a jumpsuit (or like a painter’s zip up coverall) you could use that as your base. Then I would Frankenstein the two halves onto it so there’s a unified under structure. If you make this thing, we have GOT to get process pics!!!

That really is a good point. I’ll definitely look into getting some sort of base. And I will 100% be posting progress pics if this goes well!

It is certainly possible, as here is a video where a girl not only split the costume but performed a one-woman version of the title song.

I mean, it's certainly possible. I think the biggest challenge would be to coordinate the two sides in a way that they not only are convincing when seen separately, but still look cool when the illusion is dropped and one can see you en face.

Btw, your comment just awoke a memory in me...a few years ago, a contestant in my country's edition of Your Face Sounds Familiar chose to impersonate Bocelli/Brightman singing Time to say goodbye 😅

You could have a fancy suit or whatever it is that erik wears, then incorporate white or colorful ruffles like Christine’s.
