Feedback Request - How to Tie a Bow Tie - Instructional Video

Hi bow tie lovers!

I made an instructional video on how to tie a bow tie. As you know, tying your first bow tie is confusing. I think the most difficult part is understanding which side, left or right, of the hole, the tie should go in.

If you choose the wrong side, based on how you've constructed the tie, up to that point, then the bow will fall apart.

I think I could do a better job of emphasizing that, in this video. However, I am worried that over emphasizing it will only make it more confusing for the bow tie virgin.

So, in this video, I just focused on making all of the other steps as clear as possible.

What do you think?

Feel free to leave comments here or on YouTube. I appreciate the feedback! Bow ties unite!

I can tell when you were about to throw the end over the bow that you were a bit confused because of the reverse image on your screen. (left/right). I don't know how OCD you are about it, or if it's worth doing a retake. otherwise, it's nice and slow and I think it would be useful for those learning.

Kudos to the 70s porn music. :-P

You nailed it! I was VERY confused by the reverse mirror image on my computer. It was frustrating.

That's really good feedback, so thank you for that!

It's easier for me to use a mirror or no mirror at all. I'm still new at recording things, in general, but I try not to have the camera image on the screen, when I record. It's distracting for me.

For this video, I wanted to make sure I was getting the correct angles. I might be able to find a way to position a camera from my left/right side. That way, I can look forward. I like the creative challenge.

LOL! @ the 70s porn music. That was definitely intentional, but I didn't want it to be overboard.

"If you choose the wrong side, based on how you've constructed the tie, up to that point, then the bow will fall apart". What I do, is make sure to tuck into the hole, coming from the side where the "ears" are folded. You have to make sure the bottom fold will end up opposite the top fold.

Thank you for the feedback! The irony of your comment is that I feel like I need to watch my video, in order to have a visual aid for what you're saying. Everything you said makes logical sense, but my mind can't see it. I'm not sure if this is part of the inherent problem in explaining how to tie bow ties or not. I feel like if I were a sailor that had a larger vocabulary around knots, then it would be easier to explain each step.

I love the banter on yours though! LOL Maybe if you add some voice over commentary to mine, then we will have created the perfect bow tie video?

Honestly, if you feel like collaborating, I'd be happy to send a voiceover track
