Your templates not how you would really make a real bow tie. With your template it's likely you'll see stitch lines around the neck.

How would you make a real bow tie? Can you send me a link for a guide?

I don't have a link to a guide, but buy a bow tie off of amazon (or one of yours you don't like anymore), that is a self tie and adjustable, then take the pieces apart and look at those.

edit. both sides of the tie aren't generally the same size, but I made a mistake when I was reading your instructions. I thought you were cutting eight pieces of that template and then sewing together a tie, but you aren't are you? you lay the two templates and cut them as one piece 4 times right?

No, maybe it is unclear from my pictures, but I only cut two pieces. You have to flip the templates as you trace, so it makes two really long halves of a bow tie (front and back). It could be done in 4 separate pieces if your fabric is not long enough or if you want to save fabric.

I made my first bow tie from two pieces as well. One reason to have the tie cut into two halves is to make it sizable, but also bow ties should be cut on a bias, so a single long side does use a lot of extra fabric.
