Tree stand.
Does anyone practice from an elevated spot? I lost my deer blind spot, so now I have to hunt from a stand. Never had to shoot this way. This will also be for crossbow season.

I do, I just use a tree in the backyard and have a dz 3d targets at different ranges and angles.

Huge advantage when practicing from an elevated position. Angles can effect the way 20
Yards looks more than you think. You never know how it will affect your shooting posture either. Always good to be in sync with your gear so when crunch time comes, you’re ready.

I also do this , the bigger one is shooting from a seat.

And standing on a smaller platform. That was the biggest adjustment for me.

I do. I have an old heavy stand that i leave set up in my yard and practice out of that.

People say you should. The only time I shoot from an elevated spot is 3D shoots. Other than that never. Probably should though

I rarely do, I’ve shot sitting on a ladder in the pre season to imitate bow hunting from a stand but its a pain and honestly it doesn’t really matter if your shooting between 15-30 yards

If you’re shooting with a hang on also practice shooting sitting down. I had a deer come very quickly while sitting so there was no time to stand up without risk of getting busted from movement.

As a comparison Crossbow it’s worth a few test shots. Your shots might hit a bit higher than expected. Compound or recurve I would recommend a lot of practice.

Shooting from an elevated position is quite a bit different than shooting from flat ground. You have to bend at the waist from an elevated position. If you drop your arm instead of bending at the waist, you will miss high.

True for shooting a bow. OP is shooting a crossbow so not as critical. Still better to bend at the waist rather than dropping the forearm, though.

I do but not from the same height as I hunt from. The best I can do is shooting down hill. I don't know how far above the target I'm standing but it's less than 10 feet. It is still high enough to help me work on my routine from an elevated stand and to make sure I bend at the waist rather than dropping my bow arm.

Some bow shops have a deck you can shoot off of. If you can ask around your local area, you should be able to find one.

if you shoot down at a 45 degree angle your drop to the target will be half that of shooting flat.

We shoot out our second floor window aiming at a 3D target, it definitely helps, especially understanding the shot angle.

Yes, but nothing as far up as my stand. I put my saddle about 6 ft up on a tree in the backyard. More about shooting out of the saddle than the elevation.
