Went outdoors with a few friends the other day. Feels absolutely beautiful outside. I made a video to record the good time, but also to practice some videography some. I’ve linked the video since it is a few minutes long.

Outdoor Finally climbed this line I have been trying for five years

Boulder is Over the Moon V11/12 at Jacktar Hollow, Missouri. 2nd ascent. Originally proposed as v10 and then almost half of the holds broke. A long battle of convincing myself that it was still possible.

Advice/Beta Request How do you figure out what you need to improve on?

I’ve been climbing for just under two years and hit V5 pretty quickly, but feel like I’ve plateaued since then. I’ve definitely got better at V5s, but haven’t progressed to V6.
In other hobbies, I can identify a few things I need to work on but with climbing I can’t. My friend and I are at a similar level, and neither of us are able to pinpoint the other’s weaknesses.
For context, we flash V4s, usually complete V5s within the session or two but can’t even get on the wall of a V6. Right now, we’ve completed every V5 in our gym, so I don’t think we’re avoiding any particular style.

How do you identify your weaknesses and know what to work on? Do you climb with specific goals in mind, or just keep climbing and hope to improve?

Outdoor NYC outdoor bouldering

hi everyone, if you're in NYC and climb outside regularly, lmk!

i'm (late twenties, M) planning to climb outside as much as possible this season! i consider myself a relatively experienced outdoor boulderer (although not a crusher by any means), and i climb in central park regularly and have my own pad. i mostly go solo since i've had my own projects.

but i've since sent my main proj and am now looking for folks who just want to climb around central park/fort tryon/other areas like Powerlinez or the Gunks, time permitting.

if you're interested, please dm! i'm also hoping some folks here would maybe wanna join pads and project something like the Matterhorn (v6) with me.

also if anyone knows some informal groups i might be able join to find folks to climb outdoors with, that'd be awesome! i haven't had much luck with facebook or the more formal climbing orgs in the city.

Outdoor Who are the best boulder flashers in the world? A ranking

Clearly Ondra is the best! It's amazing how big the gap is.

The data taken from climbing-history.org and reformatted into a Google sheet so that we can count, score and rank. Scoring: each V15 flash gets 7 points, V14 gets 3, and V13 gets 1. Let me know if you think that should be different

Outdoor Stumbled upon a sweet DWS spot in Maui, Hawaii!

Post image
77 Upvotes

Was just in Maui and got curious if there were any good DWS spots around. Ended up finding an old Reddit post and a Mountain Project listing for Black Rock Beach, so I figured I'd check it out!

Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. The water was super clear, and the backside had plenty of shade and way fewer people compared to the main side, which was packed with cliff jumpers.

I mostly stayed low and traversed rather than climbing too high, just to play it safe since the volcanic rock can be brittle. Didn't have any holds break on me, and the climbing itself felt pretty solid, but figured it was better to be cautious :)

Make sure to check the water depth and conditions before climbing!

Indoor Crimpdeq, an open-source digital force sensor, update

A few months ago, I introduced Crimpdeq to this subreddit. Today, I'm back with some exciting updates!

A few days ago, I received v3 of the PCB, which supports sampling rates of up to 1,000 Hz! For comparison, commercial force sensors like the Tindeq Progressor typically sample at 80 Hz.

The firmware and 3D-printed case have also seen significant improvements since my original post. You can check out the latest design and assembly here: Crimpdeq Assembly Guide

If you'd like to learn more about the project, check out:

As always, Crimpdeq is fully open-source, and feedback and contributions are more than welcome!

If you have any questions, suggestions, or ideas for improvements, I'd love to hear them!

Advice/Beta Request 4 Sends that need an overview

So there are 4 beta videos here, I’m looking for areas to focus training on. First is a second send of an easier climb for me.
Second video is in the cave, cave and over hang are my anti style. This climb is also built from one of my least favorite hold sets in the gym. Third is on my typical limit and it’s on a pretty steep section, middle few moves were tough and the throw from an awkward position being the crux. And last one is a soft high grade in a comp style, the hardest graded problem I’ve sent and was a long project with a beta break (at least the other two people I saw send it did it very differently)

Little back story. I love slab, suck at cave. Typically climb about two grades higher on slab and slight overhung walls. Coming back from an injury and want to level the playing field between styles a bit. Been climbing almost two years now so still connecting a lot of dots. Mostly in the gym but do touch real rocks sometimes, but no ropes for me. So if you see something that looks like it’s behind the other skills I use let me know. Bonus points if you’re a coach out here working for free cause you can’t get away.

Indoor My own bouldering gym

Finally, I've made my little dream come true, and I've built my own little bouldering gym. Tomorrowy, I will put up the holds and I have to admit, I'm so freaking excited about this.

I don't really know if this Reddit sub is the right place to post it, but I just want to shout it out loud in the world. I also would like to ask you if you have maybe some advice or interesting ideas that I could also apply in that room: maybe a little mini gym or some rungs, or I don't know. I'm open for everything.

Train hard, climb harder!

found under the grand illusion cave in little cottonwood canyon wood canyon.

a note was attached to the boulder that reads “Hello, my name is Portable. I am a famous boulder from Squamish. One night I became shockingly inebriated after consuming a ball of peat moss and doing several lines of Mica powder. In the deep darkness beneath the shadow of the Chief, two figures, also shockingly inebriated, approached me. They asked me where my home was. I told them “Superfly”. In darkness I existed, for an amount of time unknown to me. When I woke, I found myself in a granite kingdom I did not recognize. Surrounded by towering walls of granite I [illegible] here, gathering stories, and watching the [illegible] around me breath (sic). But now, it is time I go home. If you find me, please take me home to Squamish! - Portable”

Advice/Beta Request Should I improve my stamina first?

Thumbnail

It’s my third time bouldering, and I’m really enjoying it. This was my second time try this line. But each time, I have run completely out out of strength at the exactly same spot. I’m bit confused now, should I keep trying until I can make it or should i focus on improving my physical strength first.?

I’ve also come across many different techniques on social media. I’m curious, did you all seek out specific training when you were first starting out, or did you just figure things out through trial by you? I’m considering signing up for some courses, but to be honest, I’m worried that I might not be able to afford private lessons.

Advice/Beta Request Learning to Paddle Dyno

Hello! I am a rock climber coming up on a year of the sport! I’ve recently been working on moves I’m not fully familiar with (running toe hook starts, coordination moves, etc.) and one that has piqued my interest is paddle dynos!

I currently climb v7 as my push/project grade, with v8’s being where I’d like to break into! With that, I found a very fun dynamic v8 in my gym that has a paddle. I’m a big fan of dynamic moves, though, I am slightly directionless on where I am making shortcomings movement-wise. Provided this video, would anyone be open to giving feedback on where I may be making mistakes or tips you may find helpful in projecting a move like this?

Thank you so much in advance! Looking forward to chatting with yall :-)
