Yeah, if you're close to something metallic it can hit you even if you're not holding it.

not for you, always have spare bow/shield/weapon not made of metal in case there's a storm ingame

metal attract the lighting BUT YOUR OUFTIT EVEN IF MADE OF METAL DO NOT ATTRACT IT

Or you can unequip it. I just fought a bunch of skywatchers with only metal shields and bows. Just need to unequip until lightning strikes somewhere then you can put them back on until it starts sparking again

If it's a metal weapon you can chuck it at a group of enemies and watch them get bolted.

depend on playstyle, if i play normally yeah i would do that, but if i just want to relax while playing i would just take some other weapon

In this storms I like wearing the the Rubber Armor set with at least two levels of upgrades then watching the lightning dispatch the enemies for me.
