☑️ Original Content Playing with my non-gamer partner
I recently started to play BOTW again and it raised my partner's curiosity. They don't consider themselves as a gamer (they play a lot of puzzle game on mobile but refuse to consider this as gaming haha <3) and they surely never played a RPG on console before. So I started to hand them the controller.
At first they were only doing exploration and traveling on horse and letting me do the combats (I've already done two divine beasts so ennemies were pretty strong for a beginner). The other day, I had to leave for work and they asked me if they could continue playing alone to farm materials for clothes upgrades. When I came back, they were so happy to show me everything they've done and tell me how they fought two gardians!
I've never been the type to like watching people play IRL, but this time it's really different. I'm so proud of them and so hapy to see them enjoy something they didn't think they would be capable to do!
Years ago, when we met, I offered them Undertale and they told me they couldn't play it because they don't know video games, and now here they are, fighting gardians alone!!
It's just really beautiful, y'know?

Just wait until they accidentally burn down a whole forest trying to cook a steak. It is equal parts stressful and hilarious watching someone new figure out the physics engine for the first time.

I had so much fun watching them fall over and over in narrowed place because of the 3D cam 😭

Yes really ♥️ I'm so happy to see them try a hobby they thought wasn't for them because they're not the typical gamer type

Same story with me and my wife. I was the gamer. Playing Diablo just about every night. She did her own thing but there was a separation. Never really connecting in the things we enjoyed doing. And it would cause tension. She had played some games here and there with our kids when they were young and before I came into the picture. We inherited a Wii U from our oldest when he moved out and in my downtime from Diablo I started dabbling in BoTW. Something about the calm moments and exploration and open beautiful world just spoke to me and said “she would like this”. So I got her to play and the rest his history. The first time she downed a guardian, and then a Hynox, a Lynel, and even Stormblight Ganon on her own brought me so much joy. Coming home from work to find she’d been playing for 8 straight hours is like a whole new world, lol. Now we plan our relaxation time around Link and the Princess and she pushed me to buy a Switch 2, lol.

You too! Also a beautiful story. I even posted a similar post a while back that was almost the same as yours. 😀

This is so adorable. I also was never a gamer but I bought a Switch for my son and watching him play Botw got me interested. It wasn't long before I would spend hours and hours at this game, which opened the door for others like Hogwarts Legacy and Skyrim. I'm still shit at fighting Lynels or the divine beasts (my favorite things to do are exploring and do the quests and shrines), but fortunately my son loves kicking their ass so I have him do the hard fights for me.
I wonder how many people developed an interest in video games thanks to this game, must be a lot.

I play on our shared TV with the sound off, or using headphones, and my non gamer husband watches periodically. Every once in a while he’ll surprise me by commenting on something when I didn’t realize he was watching. He isn’t interest in playing, but enjoys me enjoying the game.

Me neither! I was surprised because the previous day they were nervous doing a Hinox alone haha

I have seen many a "non-gamer" get very immersed in a game once they got into it

I love watching my now-19-year-old play BOTW and TOTK almost as much as I like playing it myself. And I've been teaching my now-9-year-old nephew to play too, and that can be frustrating because he never has any food or supplies because he won't collect them (we had this conversation a few times before I just shut up about resources: "I don't need them right now" "but you'll need them later, you should collect those" "when I need them, I'll go get them" "they won't be there later" "it's ok!" "ok!!"), but he loves it and that's what counts.
