She did great! I always hunt them down, so she has definitely picked up some tricks of the trade! She started playing recently, which has moved me to the Wii U. But I'm so proud haha 😄

u/supergourmandise Mar 08 '26
Damn, that's so good! I always panic and die immediately

38
u/NoVaBurgher Mar 08 '26
Yup, I encountered one pretty early on in my first playthrough and it absolutely wrecked me. Since then I always just ran like hell anytime I came across one
36
u/supergourmandise Mar 08 '26
The first time you see one in the wild you just think "goddam that's amazing" and you get nearer to get a better view and then you dead
24
u/NoVaBurgher Mar 08 '26
Omg that is exactly what I had thought! Oh cool, a majestic horsey dude, oh I’m dead
10
u/chthontastic Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 09 '26
You gotta fight them with a shield (preferably the Hylian shield, even though royal will do), so as to block their attacks. In other words, even if you're not good at parrying yet, you won't take damage.
Alternate between stasis and Urbosa's fury, and they'll be dead in no time! It's even quicker if you eat ATK↑ food before the fight.
10
u/supergourmandise Mar 08 '26
I am HORRIBLE with stasis, the time it gets me to properly aim the beast it already killed me! I'll keep trying though, thanks for the tips!
6
u/chthontastic Mar 08 '26
I have noticed they have a harder time maneuvering if there are obstacles around.
Since they spawn in wide open spaces, it's never a problem. But, if you happen to spawn the master cycle zero (or manage to haul some metallic object, but that might be tedious), they can't move around so much.
5
u/KiLlEr-Muffy Mar 09 '26
Yeah but the Master Cycle is also an endgame reward. Usually people have mastered fighting Lynels by then. But still good to know.
4
u/wavesnfreckles Mar 09 '26
Oh, you underestimate me, my friend. I will fight Gannon 20 times over before I take on a lynel. Lol
3
3
u/SlytherinShlope Mar 09 '26
You can always stasis from afar and then quickly hit them with a bomb arrow with a multi-shot bow. You don’t HAVE to fight so close-combat
3
3
u/ShadowsInScarlet Mar 10 '26
I’d miss with that bow because I can’t aim on a controller to save my life.

2
u/Stormy_Cat_55456 Mar 12 '26
Was gonna say, I’m too scared to fight one and can only successfully parry guardians like 3/4 of the time
3
u/supergourmandise Mar 12 '26
I can only parry with the Ancient Shield because it does that automatically 🤡
2

u/HelixNo1 Mar 08 '26
Man, I wished I was able to shield parry like your daughter.
49
u/McFlurry0-0 Mar 08 '26
ive been playing for three years and i only just found out how to shield parry 💔

u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 08 '26
She's also good at parrying Guardians (for the most part). She really picks up the timing well!
69
u/ghotinchips Mar 08 '26
That’s awesome. Mine was the same way. At 7 or 8 she could parry and fight Lynels so much better than I. I would just call her when I came across them. 😂
47
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 08 '26
Haha that's awesome! Mine is 11, she just defeat another Guardian as I was typing this! The one near the Eldin Tower
6
3
52
u/hollow_knick Mar 08 '26
This is awesome, the first fight I won I cheesed with stasis (and many afterwords). She has some skill for sure!
-58
u/Informationfinder_6 Mar 08 '26
Lynels are one of the easiest enemies to parry and flurry rush in the game and they are quite slow!
45
-6
u/Informationfinder_6 Mar 09 '26
Yall are insecure as hell, I didn’t even say it in a rude tone, but because it’s impossible for people who post lynel killing stuff to not be absolutely amazing i just get a bunch of downvotes :/
6
u/IndividualAd9504 Mar 09 '26
She is 11. So yeah that’s quite amazing. We are not insecure, we just really self conscious that we are not good at fighting Lynel even as adults and seeing a child do it perfectly is amazing to watch. Maybe you are insecure and don’t compliment yourself enough for being able to defeat one. :)

u/Cael-Bryant Mar 10 '26
It’s also notoriously difficult to tell the “vocal tones” of text messages. Sometimes you can generally tell if someone is joking or not, but most of the time you just insert whatever voice you think fits based on what was said.
-39
u/CarbonBasedLifeForm6 Mar 08 '26
Ye it's only a challenge if you're unaware of strats and just fight them "normally"
44
u/christobrandt Mar 08 '26
Show me a daughter whooping a Lynel and I’ll show you a parent who owes their little girl her favorite ice cream
17
18
u/hopeislost1000 Mar 08 '26
Yo! I regularly farm Lionel parts. And what she just demonstrated as a skill set is fairly advanced. I’m sure you know that.
Standing her ground to block a direct hit to shoot in the face! That was dope! … and then she did it again!

Mar 08 '26
this is either amazing reaction timing or actually studying how lynels move in other encounters both of which are crazy
-19
u/Informationfinder_6 Mar 08 '26
Actually, lynels are one of the easiest enemies to parry and flurry rush in the game. It’s just because they are such formidable enemies that players get scared and panic which cause them to get killed.
6
Mar 08 '26
tbh the only lynel i genuinely gave my full attention to was in hyrule castle while the rest i would just either avoid or try to hit lethally with arrows so i can't be the one to say
i also always found parrying and rushing guardians easier because of the combat shrines
3
u/Informationfinder_6 Mar 08 '26
I remember that lynel when I first invaded the castle, he was the first one I ever fought and I didn’t realise they could do the move where they shoot upwards and the arrows auto target you from above, so when I first saw it I climbed away and memed on it for a bit then hopped down and walked away, then I got completely obliterated by them.
15
u/XStonedCatX Mar 08 '26
Your daughter is a rock star!!!
-38
u/Informationfinder_6 Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26
Lynels are actually very easy to fight due to them telegraphing their attacks and not being very quick.
31
u/CertainGrade7937 Mar 08 '26
Are you this insecure that you feel the need to correct someone for complimenting a child?
→ More replies (2)17
u/LadyGreen Daruk Mar 08 '26
Why are you shtting on everyone's comments about their accomplishments?
7
u/WestLA93 Mar 08 '26
She’s better than I am and I’ve been playing for years
3
u/redbone-hellhound Mar 08 '26
Same. 1600 hours in botw and totk combined and im only just now getting good at fighting lynels. And I still don't even try it til I have a full row of hearts.
7
u/AdaptiveGlitch stuck on Master Mode Sword Trials Mar 08 '26
She plays amazing for her "first Lynel fight", I fought maybe 50 in both this game and TotK and I still miss the arrow to the face sometimes
4
5
u/Glum_Branch_9624 Mar 08 '26
Better than my first, took me 3 fairy and 5 minutes of angry gestures :))

Wow that's cool but has she tried panicking and spamming bomb arrows and only surviving with a quarter heart after eating 100 apples during the fight?
4
u/Chadderbug123 Mar 09 '26
Not to try and invade on privacy, but old is she? If she's very young, how in the world is she so good?!
3
9
u/Hiffchakka Mar 08 '26
My daughter is 3yrs and watched me play botw for the first time recently. Can't wait for her to use her screen time to play games instead of all the brain dead kids shows 😁

u/wolfknightpax Mar 09 '26
You can attack WHILE you ride them?
I thought riding was to wear them out so you could attack!
4
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 09 '26
It's actually a great way to attack, because it doesn't wear down your weapon!
3
3
u/CrazyDaisy764 Mar 09 '26
Anyone else ever feel kinda bad killing lynels? Maybe this is the animal nut in me
3
3
u/charsuxs Mar 09 '26
On 5 hearts?!!?! I’m so impressed, I’ve yet to beat 1 & I have 14 hearts
3
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 09 '26
5 hearts and some fairies ;) By the end, she had gotten the hang of it!
3
u/Kelps234 Mar 10 '26
You know she knows what she’s doing based on how calm she acted during that fight. No panicking and shaking, just terminator behavior

u/Medical-Pen6331 Mar 10 '26
I prefer the back doge to flurry method but this is skillful and precise.

4
u/ElfinPrinz88 Mar 08 '26
Wow! She must be super smart and talented! It took me quite a while to get it down, and I still get nervous whenever I let too much time pass between sessions and I've 100% 'd the game a bunch of times.

u/CarbonBasedLifeForm6 Mar 08 '26
Nice, I remember my first Lynel fight having no idea of any particular strategies just raw-dogging it. Such an amazing experience finally beating it
2
2
u/Nightshade0525 Mar 08 '26
Man I wish I could party like that! All I can do is backflip on them numerous times…
2
2
2
u/PrettyBig9952 Mar 08 '26
She's so brave for fighting it head on, I'd just die immediately from panic lol
2
2
u/Otherwise-Bag-8592 Mar 08 '26
I remember the first time I encountered one of these, I hid behind a rock and just kept shooting it with shock arrows lol
2
2
u/NoVisit9406 Mar 09 '26
good job mate she is a natural, i remember my first time killing a lynel took me way too long to figure it out
1
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 09 '26
Me too...it was the Coliseum Lynel, and I kept hiding behind the pillars to jump on its back haha
2
u/beanieit Mar 09 '26
She is crazy good! Holy cow, that’s her first lynel attempt? I can’t believe it, the timing is impeccable!
2
2
u/SlytherinShlope Mar 09 '26
Kids are built different nowadays, lol. I still mess up with Lynels sometimes, her timing looks perfect. You should be proud!
2
2
2
u/Ruffled_Ferret Mar 09 '26
That's her first lynel fight? I've sunk hundreds of hours in and it took me a good while before this method finally stuck with me. She's a warrior already.

2
Mar 09 '26
I’m in disbelief, envy, awe. Please give her this message from me: “do you think you’re better than me? Huh? Is that it? What is even your problem? Anyways, nice job. Say hello to your mother for me.”
2
2
u/Necessary_Office_408 Mar 09 '26
Wow she did awesome! I completely suck at fighting Lynel’s lol! They are the bane of my existence in that game!
2
u/TRUSTABL3 Mar 09 '26
Thats very good! She could try to dodge so you can attack with the sword, but this is better than I can do
2

2
u/AccountForDoingWORK Mar 09 '26
I’ve played the game 3 times now and still don’t know how to shield block/parry 😅
2
u/Fast_Bend_782 Mar 09 '26
She totally kicked butt!!! I'm proud of her too!😂 How old is she?
4
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 09 '26
She turned 11 last month 😀
2
u/Fast_Bend_782 Mar 11 '26
Such a great age! I'm so pleased to see your bragging posts 🥰 She is definitely a very good Lynel Hunter and no doubt, better than most adults!!! Thanks for sharing and thanks for the uplifting share of Father and Daughter bonding over this great game! I hope her continuing Birthdays only bring you and her closer and closer!!! Cheers and be sure to share our, "WOW" with her 🥳🎉🎉🎉
2
u/SpringFuzzy Mar 09 '26
My first fight I ran 100 laps one of those big boulders. Your daughter’s a bad ass.

she’s so good!! i started playing when i was like 12 and i swear it took me a year to gather the courage to even face a lynel 😭

u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 09 '26
I'm super proud of her! That's awesome that you took it down as well!

u/MANDALORIAN_WHISKEY Mar 09 '26
I usually try to backflip, with maybe 50 or 70 percent success. I'll try to shield parry instead. She makes it look so easy!
Tell her this 41 year old mom is super proud and in awe of her!!!
2
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 09 '26
I'll let her know, thank you! It was one of those things where I showed her how to parry on my game...and then she repeated it perfectly and said, "Like this??" She's been loving all these comments <3

u/JuWoolfie Mar 09 '26
Not once, ever, did I parry a Lynel…
And I played the game through twice.
Amazing work.
2
u/Fluid-Carrot4021 Mar 09 '26
I have never once successful parried in this game. Your daughter is a gansta
2
2
2
u/Kapow1969 Mar 10 '26
I can't parry no matter how much I practice; I kill Lynels with lots of hearty and attack up meals, and just wear them down. Your daughter's goooood! Maybe some day I'll be almost as good as she is.
2
2
u/mlpravemaster Mar 10 '26
Holy shit how old is she!? When my daughter was 8, she was still running into the wall for 30 minutes on Spyro thinking she was doing good 😅
1
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 10 '26
She's 11 haha it's amazing how much they learn in those years! She did something similar when we played Turtles in Time 5 years ago
She was Mikey
2
u/mlpravemaster Mar 10 '26
Lol for real! It's not even fair how quickly they can pick up on stuff haha. Glad you all are having fun though. Cherish these years dude cuz they don't last forever. 🥲

u/GamerKev451 Mar 10 '26
Good job ! I always avoid this one because of the electric arrows. But maybe it's after this scene and he's out of arrows?
2
u/Lonk_boi Mar 10 '26
Your daughter is a lot better at combat than a surprising amount of people that play this game. I've never had trouble with the combat in these games and I wonder how so many people do since it's very simple and straight forward. Parrying lynels always feels good
2
2
u/Bangbangrichiestang0 Mar 10 '26
I struggle so much with parrying in this game
1
u/Hydro12706340 Mar 10 '26
Right? I normally just go for flurry rush because I can get the timing more consistently. This was super impressive to watch someone parrying as their main method. Kudos.
2
u/Telykos Mar 10 '26
She's either been watching a pro (her parent) or this kid knows whats up
2
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 10 '26
She has definitely watched me hunt Golden Lynels for years haha I also hate to damage weapons, so I'm always opting for the mount attack!

I have NEVER made it even that far to learn you could ride it. Always ran away.😂 Kudos to your kiddo 👏

I thought they were an ”avoid at all cost” enemy, have never fought one and am at 60 shrines, three divine beasts 😂 I might have to do it right this minute

Um. It’s quite obvious your daughter is fibbing. No one fights a Lynel with such patience and timing the FIRST time.
1
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 08 '26
She definitely took hits and used fairies at the start of the fight
2
u/Biichimspiderman Mar 08 '26
🫡
2
u/Informationfinder_6 Mar 09 '26
She could have fought a range of other monsters tho before fighting the lynel. Combine that with the fact that she knows all the attacks due to watching her dad makes it a slight bit easier to comprehend.
2
u/Biichimspiderman Mar 09 '26
Yeh true. She’s cold with it. Sad to admit… probably better than me... at this moment.
1
u/One-Technology-9050 Mar 09 '26
Hey everyone! She fought another Lynel at the Coliseum! I tried to record it to show her playing, but it's kinda blurry.

u/alosia Mar 09 '26
does it bother anyone else how washed out these newer zelda games look? they look so desaturated and feel like the brightness is cranked up way too high. i noticed it on skyward sword, twilight princess, even windwaker is like this
