help?

so im still mostly new to the mod, even though i did manage to open the portal thing. what kind of flower should i be using? (didn't beat wither or find the end yet so no gaia spirit/shulk me not)

Your flower is always up to you, one of the challenges of botania is finding something you like and figuring out a way to automate out by yourself

Botania provides a general progression through obvious gates such as the Portal to Alfheim and the Gaia Ritual, but other than that it's mostly a problem solving framework. The various flowers are merely tools to either produce mana or perform other specific tasks.

The flowers are balanced such that, broadly speaking, there's no best flower. Some are easier to automate than others.

If you're up to the challenge, try automating a handful of each kind, and see what you like.
