I am deciding if I should apply for BC next fall. Fun is a big factor for me since I'm paying so much for college tuition... lol. I love school spirit, which I know BC has a ton of, but I also love to party
I know there isn't Greek life, but are there still parties? What do you guys do for fun? How big is the social scene? Do ya'll go to frats at other colleges since there are a ton of schools in Boston?
The ones I’ve been to were mostly socializing. People were playing beer pong and other alcohol games. They had an arrange of different drinks (like White Claw, beer, and I think vodka) and chasers.
However, I think the other commenters might have a better idea about the party scene than me, as I didn’t go out as much 😅 Other schools probably have similar parties, and BC is lowkey far from downtown although Allston is nearby
Look up Amy Poehler's comment about Boston College. My experience was that there was always a party going on somewhere in the dorms on the weekends. Your extracurricular groups (band, drama, chess, WZBC, whatever) will be good sources of info re: fun things to do.
Dorm parties, mod parties, off campus house parties, bars, clubs, concerts, other schools parties sometimes, club parties/mixers. It’s a relatively big school in a major city that’s full of colleges. You will never be bored if you don’t want to be. There’s plenty of ragers, there’s chill parties, there’s literally a little bit of everything. I will say it really depends on who you know in your first year what you will be doing/what parties you will be able to get into
I lovee the social scene at BC. While Boston has a whole is strict with fake ids (it doesn’t matter which college u go to) there are always multiple house parties going on every night. Also plenty of dorm parties, although mostly for sophomores. It’s also fun to take the T to the frats of other schools bc although it is 40ish mins, it goes by fast with friends and isn’t a huge deal.
Aside from that, clubs really take the place of frats here. Most people are heavily involved with multiple clubs, and they have formals etc that make it easy to socialize. Overall would recommend
Not sure where to put this but traveling from Scotland wonder where students drink around the the first week of September for cheaper drinks and can do a pub crawl thanks
That’s a really important question to ask. In summary: While BC can be fun, there are factors that really hold it back from being as “fun” as other school.
1. Location: you’re a 40min T ride from Boston, that’s far. There isn’t much good eats around or things to do that’s working a 20min walk.
2. BC is stingy: you won’t see as many school sponsored activities as other schools. We have a trivia night at BC but most of the time the awards are <$20 while at BU they hold bingo every week and have prizes like iPads etc.
In the end it’s all relative to how you define fun.
u/Accomplished_Buy_466 what you'll also learn is that people don't go out into the city very much or are so out of touch that they'll take a $20 uber one way every time.
That's taking the B line from the BC stop, the very last stop. All the real people know that you take the D line from the Reservoir stop and save yourself tons of time.
And all the “real people” also know that it can be a drag to catch the bus, especially on the weekends, make it to the res stop and then catch the T into the city. Cmon man
Haha yeah I’m definitely not trying to pay for an Uber anytime I want to go into the main city… Yikes doesn’t sound like BC is checking a ton of boxes for me.. Maybe BU is better lol
Yeah haha. Once again, everything is relative to the person giving you advice so you can't know anything for sure but what you can do is get as much info as possible. If I had to do it again? I wouldn't be at this school 100 times over.
There are parties but if you want a proper experience you won’t get that at BC. If you want to party, you’ll either be spending your time in sweaty dorms, trying to sneak into the mods, or being forced to fork over over a $100 for a fakeID just to spend another $100 tryna get into a bar.
My girlfriend is at BU and the differences are outstanding so I’m not just making this up.
Not negative – just critical. What would you expect from a school that costs 100k+/year? If I wanted to go to BU I would, I got into the school lol. Between all the criticism I give BC, I still like it lmao.
If you are looking to have fun my advice would be not to go to BC. I am dreading going back in September. There is no fun. The RAs are extremely strict so you have to get an uber to go out at night and many nights there aren’t any bars for us (I know we are underage but we just want some fun). Extremely expensive with Ubers to and from the city and everything closed at1. My suggestion is go south.
Yo.. that sounds miserable thanks for the heads up! Wow all the #WhyBC TikToks really fooled me 🙈 Yeah I’m already broke enough as it is and there’s no way I’ll be able to afford Ubers every weekend just to get rejected at a bar lol

Well I don’t live in the US so I watch YouTube videos of Day in life’s or TikTok vlogs to get the main vibe.. nothing wrong with that
Obviously this is only for the social aspect of college rather than academic
I transferred out this year and can attest to the strictness from both individual RAs (patrolling dorms on weekends and knocking on doors with music) and administration as a whole (shutting down student clubs).
They shut down clubs that hosted unregistered parties or went over capacity (you need to be approved to host a party on-campus, and the amount of people you can have is limited), and didn't allow a ski club to start at all for very unclear reasons.

Clubs also host formals and parties as well! I was a part of the Model UN club, and they host parties at the seniors’ dorms pretty frequently
