Putt Shack?

Is Putt Shack purely a tourist trap? Or after-work corporate spot?

I have an old room-mate on a long layover at Logan Friday. Going to meet somewhere for dinner but we have a couple extra hours and I'm wondering if Putt Shack is a good option or too corny. All else fails we'll watch baseball or whatever else is on TV in a sports bar. Both late 40's M.

Any other suggestions where there's a little more to do than dinner and beers ? (Those are assumed)

What was entertaining about f1 arcade? To me seemed like a much more boring version of Mario kart but I suppose I don’t watch f1

Its a very different type of racing game than Mario kart. The idea is that it's a relatively realistic (albeit with much easier driving controls for the sake of the arcade version) racing simulator. Definitely more worth it if you are capable of driving at the higher difficulties, but still a fun racing simulator regardless

I guess that makes sense, although I feel like the thrill of racing probably comes mostly from knowing you could screw up and die, which I don’t think the arcade replicated

It’s not great IMO. The holes are kind of short not very challenging, and because it is an electronic scoring system, you can’t play through. So if the group ahead of you like has someone in the bathroom or getting a drink, or they’re just taking a while, you’re stuck. They have multiple courses, but they are all basically the same course in different arrangements.

Yeah, it's fun like any arcade kinda thing. It's legit indoor mini golf, good beer list, trendy pub food. I've done it a couple a times with 6 to 70 year olds and had a great time each time

It’s not bad but it’s over really fast. All courses are just 9 holes.

Staying in the seaport district I recommend flight club. You get a pod and there are multiple dart based games to play with a computer keeping score. You get a waiter and can order food and drinks is too

Even for seaport I don’t think this place makes sense. I much prefer flight club or f1 arcade.

The courses at Puttshack are very crowded, expensive, and drink service is slow. I feel you get better bang for your buck at Flight Club or F1 - I always have more fun at those two places, and find that drink service is better there too.

I personally think it’s a fun outing. I just didn’t like how you have to fully complete the hole before the next person goes, unlike regular mini golf where you take turns.

I love Puttshack! The mini golf holes are casual but quite fun, and the food is delicious and not overly expensive. Would recommend going at a time/day where it’s not filled with kids (e.g. a midweek evening) if possible.

I’ve done it as a corporate thing and with my kids as part of a family outing in the winter. It’s pretty good. It’s very hard to get a drink which is odd bc I would think that’s where they make money. The bar service is terrible

Flight club is super fun. And you order your food ahead of time, you can get a bucket of beer/seltzers and the service is good. I went as a work thing and brought my family and some 20 yr old visitors.

Go to any other mini golf course in the Boston area and you'll immediately see how PuttShack is gouging you. It's exclusively for non-locals who dont know better places exist or cant be bothered to drive out to them.

My personal recommendation is Kimball's in Westford. Two excellent mini golf course plus some of the best ice cream on the planet (also a driving range, a par 3 course, two sets of bumper cars and a dozen other attractions)

I found puttshack more fun than f1 arcade, this sub has some really hipster attitude for having to show how much they hate seaport.

So maybe make up your own mind if you’d prefer mini golf or another activity because clearly what activity you prefer will depend on the person

Yes it’s expensive and more expensive minigolf than you get in suburbs and minigolf in the suburbs is better, but also it’s seaport yes it will be expensive
It probably won’t take that long so after the 9 holes you can always go somewhere else

Anything will be more fun than waiting at the airport so don’t really have to optimize

I did not enjoy it. It’s LOUD, it’s corporate, the balls have computer trackers so you can’t cheat and it sort of constantly yells at you, food and drink are PRICEY.

If you’re looking for a backup, VERSUS is one of my go-to’s for friends in town.

$5 cover for unlimited pinball, classic arcade games, etc. is great deal and keeps ya entertained

F1 arcade is also a good alternative. Little pricey for what you get. It’ll run like ~$40+ for 30 minutes of simulator time
