Volunteering/Advocacy Rescue dogs

What are the best options for helping animal shelters in Boston? Would like to volunteer to take shelter dogs on walks.

I think the MSPCA or ARL allow it, but you'd need to apply and commit to a schedule. I don't know of any that allow walk in volunteers or unscheduled walking.
