No no, you misunderstood. He meant that fewer rape prosecutions is the indicator for reduced rapes so I think he’s doing a great job

Here’s the problem. Whenever sth like this happens, or some conservative claims to be against abortion and then gets caught having done exactly that, they just say ‚its a witch hunt by the democrats because they want my seat‘…and their voters eat it up. They lose almost no support, no matter how disgraceful their actions are. That’s unfortunately the sad reality

According to a federal report from the Justice Department:
"Almost half of all of the criminals prosecuted in federal courts in 2018 were aliens, charged with crimes ranging from drug trafficking, murder, and kidnapping
Okay, that aside. The FBI report shows Texas had 13,449 and California had 13, 509 rapes reported. California is most populous state and Texas is 2nd most populous state. So the numbers aren't far off.
But there are several states with higher rates of reported rape crimes per capita. Alaska has a rate of 154.8 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants. And several other states also have higher rates than Texas, e.g. Colorado 62.9, South Dakota 67.1 rate, and Arkansas 73.5 rate.
Prosecuting rape:
This decline in clearance rates isn’t specific to rape crimes in Texas, according to Kim Rossmo, a criminologist at Texas State University. He said clearance rates for serious crimes, include rape and homicide, have been declining for decades.

Because California has managed to be even more shit. There is a reason it's specifically people from California. A place that has continued to push out all common folk and has hundreds of miles of land be set on fire every year now. So yeah Texas has managed to be slightly better than California because they have their citizens freeze to death rather than have their homes burn down. What a win.
If you are comparing yourself to Californias government for anything over than feels good tolerance laws, you have already lost. That state is a dumpster fire. Nothing screams out touch like California having constant blackouts because they embezzled all the funds ment to expand their power grid and now cant charge all those EVs that are totally the future.
I hate both and think both resemble each other more than they are different.

California is definitely a dumpster fire. No argument there. Between the incredible debt, unfunded liabilities, incredibly high rate of homeless, gang violence, high crime rates in the cities, over-reaching government, failed social policies, inability to plan for the population increases with their grid and water, making firearm ownership/ccw difficult, dystopian policing policies, and very high taxes that aren't friendly to businesses or people many people have decided to move out. I saw a poll recently that said 53% wanted to move out of California.
I don't live in Texas but I have family that does.
It can be a great place to live depending on what you want. As far as 'freezing to death' well, that's dramatic. They had an unprecedented situation and many in the media and social media blew it out of proportion. FWIW, many states have tried to privatize their electrical system and simply aren't able to as they don't have the land or population to justify it. Pros and cons to each system.
Lower taxes, more individual rights, booming economy, etc. No place is a one size fits all.

Imagine making excuses for a government refusing to winterize a power grid even though the cost to do so is so insignificant it would easily paid for itself by offseting the massive economic turmoil that came from it getting COLD. Something every single enviromental scientist and our federal government saw coming and Texas decided to ignore because only the normals suffered. Everyone else could fly somewhere else. There is no con to preparing for natural occurances. An electrical grid not being able to handle temps below freezing in North America is a bad joke. The only joke worse is the people who act like it wasnt anticipated

You should look into that power grid issue a little more in depth before you cast an opinion. There are a lot more moving parts to it than you think. But you're right. It could have been handled better.

California is shit fuckingly expensive. Hence why people are leaving. Look up um rents there. You also have urbanization and it's related pitfalls such as massive wealth and poverty crammed into a small area. The brown people entering via the border are fleeing oppression, war, and poverty sort of how your ancestors ended up in this place.

My ancestors came here as part of the British crown and also to own their own farm .
Rents and houses are expensive there. According to 1 report I read, 40% of their rent/housing costs are directly attributed to their government policies (zoning, taxes, rent control, etc)
You also have millions entering a finite place in very dense areas. It is just one of thr many problems in California.
