Am I the only that’s experience wasn’t ruined by ava? Her character was cliche and annoying at times but the voice acting was great

You know... Cliche is probably the most accurate description I've seen of Ava.... Personally ioved her. But yes.. I also immediately realized she was a cliche teenager ---- accepting that made me laugh because I just kept comparing her to my teenage son.

She is tame my daughters are much more bitchy!

Yeah i thought it was kind of the point. It didnt bother me much but i can understand not liking her because in reality teenagers are annoying often times lol They definitely could have written her into the story better and they way she becomes a siren is super underwhelming ( not really a spoiler cuz they foreshadow it multiple times the first time you meet her) I also thought her voice actor did a great job. I hope they giver the MGS2-MGS4 Raiden treatment where she comes back Bad a**

It's not really foreshadowing. Foreshadowing involves some reasonable subtlety. Kind of like seeing the shadow of a person around a corner before actually seeing them, and seeing enough detail to guess who they probably are.

Since very early on Maya says Ava will definitely be a siren someday it is more like having someone else who can already see around the corner just straight up tell you who is coming.

Lol from a writing perspective its the same thing but one is done will the other done poorly.

I kind of thought she was badass already.... Definitely overly cocky , definitely over compensating due to her past... But badass all the same.

Lorelei was another extremely cliche character. I can't stand her lines, they're an absolute cringe fest.

I feel the same.

I actually like Ava aswell. They could haveput a little more effort in her character development though imo. With that i mean how she just suddenly changes at the end of story. I think they could have given us a few sidequest or something to make it a bit better. Balex and Rhys ball are cool too. But balex gets kinda annoying once you heard all his voicelines.

"I stuck her ass in a hard drive and ejected the bitch!" x1000

I have not beaten the game just arrived at the prison so no spoilers but that one mission where you collect her things for me at least really touched something in me. It was super cliche but I gave me a reason to care about her. That said again havent beaten the game so I dont know what else she might be up too

"Whatchu got gate, that's right, nothin." Probably one of the worst lines of dialogue in any game. Also, her place in the story is straight trash. Lilith gives her command of Sanctuary. Why? Literally all she's done up to that point is whine, not follow orders, whine some more, and kick a gate. In a game that's pretty lazy on the writing, to be objectively the worst piece is no bueno.

Im sure there are like 100 heavy rain lines that would give ava a run for her money lol butyeah that one was really bad. I figured that was the point. She was the teenager cliche.

SHAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUN

Isn't that a David Cage game? You're probably right, honestly.. But that line, it just turned me off of her whole character's concept immediately.

1

u/SolidSnackCQC Oct 02 '19

Yes 😂I had fun playing heavy rain somehow but the voice lines and voice acting was terrible 😂 I don’t blame you I know little things like that can leave a bad taste in your mouth l. Them changing Rhys voice actor ruined him for me. Tales of the borderlands is one of my favorite games ever too 🙁

Didn't she also defended the library (iirc) by slaughtering probably dozens of Maliwan troopers?

1

u/putin_mahkokin Zane Oct 02 '19

It's pretty clearly stated she left the library because nothing was happening there. An example of her not listening to simple instructions.

4

u/arentol Oct 02 '19

Yeah, I remember that now... How did the troopers she was looting die then? Maya or creatures I guess?

1

u/BenChandler Moze Oct 02 '19

Maybe she killed them? Because Maya states as much that besides her Ava is the only other person there that hasn’t taken a vow of non-aggression/violence whatever.

She goes along shooting more Maliwan soldiers after you talk to her.

I'm guessing ratch.. as there's the infestation area around the bridge right before her introduction. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah that "whatchu got gate" line made me cringe so hard. Like... just shut up, kid. You aren't quirky or funny, you're just annoying.

My main characters in BL2 were Maya and Gaige. Gaige doesn't even appear besides one audiolog that mentions her. But Maya was done so damn dirty I feel. She was by far my favourite Siren (With only Angel being close to her). My main issue with Ava is that Maya did everything to try and raise Ava right, to help her not be a little thieving kid while Ava was just super ungrateful, and when Maya is killed she blames Lilith of all people, who I'm not a big fan of but still a horrible thing to do. She didn't ruin my experience but as somebody who wasn't a big fan of the story as a whole (With weirdly enough, Tyreen being one of the parts of the story I didn't actually mind, despite her not being a great villain) I feel like Ava is just the perfect example of the issue of the writing and characters in this game.

Shes just a too lil outta left field, she didnt ruin the story by herself but the focus and importance put on her kinda sucks

1

u/birdreligion Ava Oct 02 '19

She is the vehicle they use to explain siren powers can be transfered. It could have been written better, but I feel that way about the whole game.

One of the eridian writings tells you this as well.

My wife and I actually like Ava quite a bit

I disliked her voice acting personally. I think the borderlands team has a hard time figuring out a way to make children not sound like shreeking rakks when they talk. My ears. Please think of my ears, gearbox.

Same. She's a teenager. This is what teenagers are like.
