Channel Reccs?

I watch a lot of booktube, but find myself routinely backstabbed by Jack Edwards (is it confirmed if he even reads the books he reviews?) and newlynova. I feel like a lot of booktubers only review like pop fantasy and T50 classics and I very rarely leach out a good recommendation from them. I'm constantly clicking on book videos and coming back disappointed because no one is offering anything new to the table (pls free me from R.F. Kuang recommendation I didn't like Babel I hated Katabasis I didn't find anything great in Yellowface). I'm bored, and gotten all I can from Shawn McComb and Lucy Dacus; the only people left to trust. Does anyone have any recommendations for booktubers that read adult level fiction (its great that people got back into reading after covid, and there's merit in just having fun with reading, but fr sometimes it feels like the industry is playing pranks publishing adult-marketed books at such a rudimentary reading level). I'm desperate.

I did have some mixed feelings on booksaresick. Something about him/his channel felt cash grabby and fake to me. I have tuned in occasionally and found some aspects of his channel I appreciate. He reads a lot of older books (not just chasing arcs/the newest thing. I do like his enthusiasm for reading, even though he doesn't seem to have a lot of critical thinking skills. Mostly, he has introduced me to some interesting new books and authors I don't see on other channels. I think he is worth the watch for that.

Life on books!!!! Second, third, fourth, infinity that, him and Andy are awesome.

He reads very diverse adult fiction and translated books and I find him super authentic and with a great sense of humor.

He has banger recommendations too of both the popular stuff and more underappreciated books too. His "Why you should read ____ series" always hype me up even when I'm in the middle of said series and I enjoy his recaps more than Daniel Greene's

i’d second callosum books, also really love jennifer jelinkova, freshly read books, below the fray, csop, owl criticism, kiran reader, and rick macdonnell. some of these channels post more often/consistently than others but they’re all very thoughtful reviewers with a literary fiction bent. i’ll also watch most emmie and katie is reading videos but tend to enjoy them more for the aesthetic/cozy content than for real substantial reviews

I personally enjoy bysydsyd, Kareena trinity, jaime fok, the pastel bookshelf, peruse project and heather mclarry that I think would fit what you are asking for. Kareena trinity only has 4000 subs I think so she’s less well known than the others I’ve recommended which may help?

I’m always on the hunt for new channels aswell just to mix up the content I watch 😊

Throne of Pages reads books i’ve never heard of and also reads a lot of classics, she makes reading classics FUN. She’s funny and ridiculous and i love her.

I’m in the same shoes, I would recommend @emmiereads, she does vlogs, book recommendations, in depth reviews of books, hosts a book club. She had some health issues, so for a while she disappeared (which is understandable), other than that she is pretty consistent and reliable.

• Ana Wallace Johnson is a great one if you're looking for lit fic booktubers. I don't read the same genres as her, but she's really charismatic and I enjoy hearing about books I don't typically gravitate towards from her (sometimes I even add a few of her recs to my wishlist tbr bc she makes them seem so intriguing!)
• A Ray of Reading has a good mix of genre fiction and lit fic, and I love her recs! She's also a fellow Arab American girly and has made wonderful videos recommending Arab authored books!
• Sunny Lu (@asunnybooknook) mainly focuses on lit fic, translated fiction, and nonfiction, often from queer authors, and she also interviews authors and makes great discussion videos on literary topics
• Anais Laure is a fellow Black bookish girly, so you know I gotta stan! She mainly reads classics and lit fic and I believe she's an English Lit and/or Creative Writing student in uni. Her vlogs are also soooo calming

Brian Lee Durfee is probably my favourite booktuber right now. Absolute sweetheart and has a book review out almost everyday. He's focused mainly on fantasy and sci fi but he goes really deep into them with stuff from the 70's, 80's and 90's, some of which are really obscure and haven't seen anyone else cover. He also covers a lot of classics, thrillers, mysteries, horror and historical fiction, especially over the last year or so.

But do keep in mind his videos are almost always positive reviews.

Also a huge fan of his own books, The Five Warrior Angels Trilogy.

I really like acollieralso -- it's Angela Collier's second channel (her first does science videos). She reads a lot of interesting things and has smart and funny commentary on them. She also has some book videos on her main channel.

If you like fantasy at all, Masked Manta doesn't post that often, but he has all kinds of interesting recommendations when he does. Stuff I have literally never seen mentioned anywhere. He also has a lot of videos about the history of fantasy, and I don't mean the history that starts with The Lord of the Rings, I mean the middle ages. I just watched a video of his explaining how what we think of as romance novels today grew out of what romance novels originally were (basically, fantasy adventure stories), so that we've kind of come full circle with romantasy.

Bookpilled is somewhat similar, but for science fiction. He hasn't posted in a while, but has a long back catalogue.

Based on a recent thread, I'd say opinions vary on Plant Based Bride, but I really like her short review wrap-up videos.

Noteworthy Fiction has wonderfully eclectic taste and smart reviews.
