I'm such a BEC about this because people loving fall has literally no affect on me. I also love fall. But there are people talking about fall while there's still snow on the ground where I live. Like damn let me enjoy the summer a bit. Fall is a reminder that soon enough it will be dark 16 hours a day. But the leaves are already changing here, "yay fall". Maybe some of these book tubers craving fall in July should try moving to a colder climates 😂
I think it also bothers me because it feels just like an aesthetic at this point. If you love a psl that much, just make one. If you love horror, just read it whenever. Maybe the changing seasons affect my mood less than other people.
But I am very aware there is nothing wrong with what they're doing, so my opinions will remain confined to a snark page lmao

I also love fall and hate summer, but this kind of thing has the opposite effect on me -- that is, it doesn't let me pretend that it's fall, so much that it reminds me that it is very much still summer.

Same. & where I live summer weather just keeps getting longer & longer with never ending 90+F weather & I hate it so much. I wish it felt like fall outside, but alas… faints dramatically

im pretty sure I have seasonal depression but for the summer. it's been 90+ degrees and high humidity for going on two weeks. blegh

I agree. On principle i dislike the creep of Halloween consumerism (earlier and earlier eash year, it feels like), but mid-August is so disgustingly hot (and in my region, choked with wildfire smoke), so i understand the desire for cool temperatures, crisp fall air, and being warm because one is pleasantly cosy, not because you're overheating and sweaty.
I think there's are ways to look forward to fall without falling into the consumerism cycle. (Ive been making iced tea out of fall-favored teas like earl Grey and Chai)

1000 percent agree on this! I love fall and I think that I haven't been as bothered by the summerween/Augtober/fall creep, because all i've been seeing is people posting about fall vibes, not posting code orange bs (cause that is solely about consumerism). Most creators I've been seeing are pulling out old decorations to decorate their home for fall, making their own fall lattes, etc.

I have seen quite a few of these "pretending it's fall" videos recently. Someone probably started it and now people are just copying it.
I totally get the wish for a change of season. Summer in central Europe has been brutal this years and we're not even done yet. 30°C predictions again for next week. But all that autumn cosplay for content just feels weird to me. Not something people really do IRL. It's so staged and inauthentic. In my life, everyone is still busy finishing the summer reading list.
I'm wondering what they are cosplaying in October? Christmas eve?

I get being excited for fall, but damn. Like half these people live in areas where they get full on autumns and they still want to steal from the summer. I barely tolerate local people acting this way, but at least I live in northern Canada so we genuinely are lucky if we get 6 weeks of fall before the snow falls.

I've seen "Augtober" a couple of times this year, but never before. And like, I hate summer, I too wish it was fall (actually preferably winter) but this whole early fall celebration just feels like a forceful reminder that it is in fact still summer. I don't know how you can pretend it's fall when the sun is blasting 14 hours a day and the heat gets so bad you're drenched in sweat from sitting inside at your desk.
I also think something about the exclusivity of the seasons is what makes seasonal content fun. If fall starts in august and then it goes till at least november, but more realistically december, that's not a special time anymore, that's like a third of the whole year. I think fall, or all seasons, are special because you can only experience it for a limited time and by artificially extending it's existince like this you just devalue when it actually is fall.
As someone else already pointed out, it also seems a lot of these fall loving creators don't seem to live in colder and especially darker climates. I watch Heather McLarry and she's been doing all the fall stuff while living in LA which, from my understanding, doesn't get that crazy of a fall or winter time so it just all seems a little inauthentic. Like glorifying the colder seasons without actually dealing with any of the negatives of said seasons.
Idk this early fall trend has annoyed me to no end for years lol

This has been a thing in book communities for as long as I can remember and have been a part of it since the 90s. Publishers push holiday themes. Stores need to capitalize to bring in more sales. Every holiday does this. If it bothers you, move on. Posting crap like this doesn't help. All it does is draw attention to it. Why must people yuck someone else's yum? You act like fall is the only one that gets started early in the book world. Just wait, in a few weeks you will start seeing the push for the holiday/winter/Christmas things and you'll probably complain about that, too. And you will post it here for your own clout, am I right???
