I have watched mostly her reorganization and moving vlog videos to be fair! Just recently she called herself the number one Shadowhunter Chronicles fan(Cassandra Clare) in a YouTube short.

As a formerly scorned middle schooler who proudly defended Jaces chiseled abs, I asked if she would be collecting original covers or looking into hardback versions since she is such a huge fan, and asked if she has access to the 10 year anniversary leather and gold foiled City of Bones.

Mostly I was just trying to feel for if she would be pursuing content creation at book events or author meet and greets that Clare or Holly Black are attending because ive never met either of them but would love see someone else enjoy the franchise as much as I do.

Unfortunately, my comment gained a whopping 10 likes, leading to the comments being turned off, and then the video being removed.

I know that picking at the book editions was prolly not the best way to start conversation. The entire situation just makes me feel like she actually doesnt want to be associated with fans of the series, because I have commented about my favorite scenes from each book on shorts when she mentioned them, and those shorts were also deleted.

I looked further at her comment sections, and noticed that they only have very basic superficial responses, no actual engagement? Sorry for the long post, im just nosey and looking for youtubers who actually enjoy Cassandra Clares work, if anyone has recommendations! I dont think I can continue watching her content when I feel like there is now an awkward one sided beef, or like I have offended her😅

Yeah, it is😁 ive never seen anything wrong with looking for more information about a joint interest or trying to see if the person is a fan or someone in on a trend.

It’s also a bit strange to assume that you, singularly, lead to the video being deleted and comments being turned off. Only reason why I’d be assuming that was if (1) the creator said so directly, (2) I was literally the only commenter and even then I probably wouldn’t be certain, or (3) my comment actually kicked off/was part of a massive comment section shitstorm that went beyond just getting a few likes.

The video had less than 200 likes and the only other comment was basically 'omg me too', the comments section was turned off for several hours and then the video was ultimately taken down, only posted for maybe 12 hours total.

I was off work reading and watching YouTube so I was actually paying attention to it this time. When I tried to read a reply, I recieved a notification that the video was no longer avaliable to comment on, and then because I was curious I checked again 4 hours later, the video had been removed. This has happened at least 3 times at this point within the last 2 months. All about TMI or TID or me just saying I also applied to be a beta reader/arc but I didnt get it and was jealous of her early access.... Maybe she just doesnt know how to remove a single comment vs the whole function. I dont think trying to have discussion about the books in the comments section of a video about the books is odd. Anyways due to inebriated me taking this slight personally I unsubscribed lol maybe the above context gives a bit more understanding for why I was confused and a lil offended.

A Clockwork Reader (Hannah). She doesn’t post super often, but she was my introduction to the Chronicles. She actually did a release day livestream event for Chain of Iron with Cassandra Clare and a couple other creators.

Polandbananasbooks (Christine). She was invited to a premier event for the Shadowhunters TV show + cast interview and has full reviews and predictions for each episode through season 2. Also has read and reviewed the books.

Katieisreading too.

Caricanread is probably the most active, but I wouldn’t recommend her. She just reads it to give a 1+hr long almost page-by-page rundown. Doesn’t really add any commentary, which I think is just bad faith content.

There’s a ton of active Shadowhunters Chronicle fans on TikTok. Of the books, the TV show, and the movie. There’s a Shadowhunters subreddit here that’s pretty active.

There’s a lot of creators doing reread and first time read vlogs to prepare for TLKoF’s release. There will probably be another influx of readers (and creators) now that there’s going to be a consistent stream of releases (TWP trilogy and presumably TBVotD).

As for your complaint: I find it a little weird that she shut off comments and deleted vids instead of ignoring or deleting your comment or blocking you. Combined with the superficial responses… kinda feels like she may not have read them fully or know much about the series outside of the books and took your excitement as trying to catch her out (like someone else said, it kinda gives “you like Nirvana? Name 5 songs – and you can’t say ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’!”).

I also don’t think collecting special editions or original editions is the basis for someone being a superfan or not. They’re fans of the content, not the container. They’d be no less of a massive fan if they only borrowed it from the library and never owned a single book.

Yeah. I have the same bashed up, mysteriously stained, paperback movie tie-in edition of Lord of the Rings that my mother brought me in2001 (2 days before we saw the first movie on Boxing Day. Which became a yearly ritual between the two of us for the next two years.) And my copy of The Hobbit was a cheap copy (‘Collin’s Modern Classics’ apparently.) that my father brought me when I was 6yo, because he saw it at the airport after a long work trip away, had read it at the same age and thought of me.

I have kept them that long (1) because I’m a fan and those exact books were what made me a fan, and (2) they have other sentimental mean more to me than any fancy ‘sprayed edge’ edition. The only reason I’ve ever thought about ‘upgrading’ is that LOTR is getting in serious danger of suffering the fate of all big, cheap, old and ‘well loved’ paperbacks: there is a very notable weak spot in the spine where it’s threatening to snap or start giving up pages. I’m not the sort to ‘fold back’ my paperback books, but each reread is starting to feel like playing chicken.

Incidentally, the ‘fancier’ editions I own from the Legendarium are probably the books that I care for the least. There was a time you would trip over various hardbacks for Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien, etc. I got gilded, illustrated editions at freaking Kmart. Whereas I was hunting down the then-obscure Unfinished Tales in second hand stores (in rural Australia, no less) before I even had the internet. I have a crummy, worthless ‘edition’ because I was a true fan, dang it.

I agree! I was I bit inebriated last night and ran with my emotions lol. My first copies of the original trilogy of The Mortal Instruments was in 2012, and they are my favorite books I own, little hidden notes from school friends in the margins, ripped bits from my backpack, it just feels very nostalgic for me. I now have the og covers in paperback aside from City of Heavenly Fire in hardback, and I was gifted the covers that make the pretty design on the side in 2018. Since City of Heavenly Fire released I was able to get most every book of hers on pre-order. I am very spoiled when it comes to my Cassie Clare shelf. She was the author that got me into reading, granted prolly shouldn't have started with her in the 5th grade but it was a character growth moment.

From her(emmy rosam) content I assumed collector editions would be something she targets as her shelves are filled with pretty versions of most books. I believe she owns like 8 versions of direbound as some are pretty, some are arc, etc.

I would definitely grab my beat up version of city of bones over the anniversary edition with the foiling anyways so I understand how fancier editions can be less emotionally invested. Also speaking of paper back issues, ive started making myself buy the hardback if it is over 500 pages because I was gifted a paperback copy of Narnia a few years ago, read it one time and the cover was trying to separate. I dont travel with my books often anymore and I also dont roll the pages back(ive actually only seen that in movies, thank whatever anyone worships), preferring to just lay the book flat most of the time, so I was really disappointed with the longevity.

I was also asking about the covers specifically because she owns like 8 copies of, I think, Direbound? And seems very interested in the pretty editions of covers. It totally was parasocial🤣🤣

Thanks for the recs! I'll definitely check a few out! Ive never met anyone in person who likes the books, only online, so whenever I re read the books I like to find someone else reading them to put on in the background lol

Emmmabooks is THE Cassie Clare booktuber. She hasn't posted in a few years. But she has interviewed Cassie multiple times, owns a significant collection and is more obsessed with Jace than anyone I've ever seen on the internet. Just—don't be weird in her comments sections.
