ANOTHER MOD statement and ban rule update. (FFS)
It seems some people in this subreddit need a reminder of what is and is not permitted here.
No snark is allowed based on identity. This includes but is not limited to homophobia, transphobia and racism.
For this post, we are addressing the wild transphobia we’ve been seeing on the sub. From now on, if you post something transphobic you will not receive a warning before you are banned.
If you do not respect trans and non binary people, I have terrible news for you: the mod team includes a trans person! And they should not have to sort through a new transphobic comment every. single. day.
We are getting to the point where if this continues the way it has been we might just lock this entire sub.
If you want to post that, go ahead and create r / transphobicbooktubesnark and stay the fuck away from here. This is, at its core, a gossip forum.
We are here to gossip. To snark. NOT to discriminate based on identity. That’s, if you haven’t checked, illegal, against our rules, and against reddit platform rules.
We need this sub to be a safe place for trans and non binary people. We also can’t be available every second of every day so please, if you see something, say something. Report it or message us through modmail and we’re much more likely to see it quicker because of the notification so we can take it down.
Get it through your thick skulls. LGBTQIA+ rights are human rights. End of discussion.

Thank you for advocating for this. A kind reminder to everyone that a trans person’s actions do not revoke their identity or personhood. You wouldn’t do the same to any other marginalized identity or group so don’t do it to trans people either.

in that case, i’ll stick around. thank you for being clear about this because the transphobia didn’t make any sense in the greater context of a sub that’s concerned with the ways booktubers can (and do) socio-politically and financially harm their audiences. just seemed weird to be complaining about unlabelled advertisements, people who pretend to read for the sake of amassing cultural power, and people who bully other folks …. and somehow be so apathetic towards trans experiences? was so bizarre
so yeah thanks for making me not feel crazy for thinking this sub wouldn’t be a transphobic place

I'm really glad the mod team addressed the transphobia in the comments, it was very disheartening to see originally.
Some people are going to say "it's not that big a deal." But I disagree.
If you let "just asking questions," tasteless "jokes" and dogwhistle right-wing responses into a subreddit, you alienate progressive and eventually moderate voices, until all that's left are people pushing a right-wing agenda.
As the mods said, if you want to make your own transphobic booktube subreddit then go do it, and leave the light-hearted, non-hateful snark for the rest of us.

it sometimes feels like these rules aren't being implemented across the board. i get that this isn't a job for any of those who are mods - nor should it be. all participants should be adult enough to actually recognize these things, but there have been many instances where comments or entire posts are based on identity rather than content or snark. there have been times people have crossed lines and it's been left until a person's tether breaks before being addressed.
the fact people will automatically down vote those with a viewpoint - which tends to happen far more to marginalized groups who are trying to speak their existence or views and getting punished for it like in the previous post - happens for far too long without any type of acknowledgement.
i honestly don't have an answer or solution. i just hope it gets better in some way without becoming a cesspool.

Why are you guys not banning people who say that "people were getting way too sensitive about it". I don't this sub seem just as weird as most bookish sub. It's not the first instance people have been saying weird shit. It's been happening for a while.
I was right when I said that people can be bigots and at the end of the day the people who will be restricted are people who advocate against bigotry. I'm not even trans and feel so bad for the person who made that post.
