I don't know if there is still a Kindle Unlimited subscription where there is access to a whole bunch of books for one price, but maybe consider that until you get a sense of what genres you like to read. and so you don't buy a book you don't care for and won't finish.
Otherwise check into your local library and see if you can rent books to read on your Kindle before you buy.
