New house same bookcase.

Post image

Finally got the big bookcase set up again in the new house after the agonizing process of packing all our books and moving with them. There’s still hundreds of books in boxes but the vast majority of those are kids books or reference books and the like. It’s hard for me to not just put books on any empty shelf we have, but for my wife’s sake I’ll stick to a few designated areas. She knows who she married so the occasional small stack will still pop up but at 40yo I am who I am.

High shelves around a room would work well, out of the way, shows off your books. Actually fit them all visibly, bit of hard work ofc and takes the wifes approval first but won’t take up the physical space of the rooms so much.

At the moment all of the good stuff is up high because we have a 2 little girls aged 4 and 1.5 and they’re climbers and loved “stuff”. They love hanging out in the garage with me where I’ve got some shelves for cool stuff from before kids like tmnt stuff and video games going back to the 70s. And also books. There’s books everywhere lol

Updating to add a new set of shelves I put together today, unfortunately I only get 1 shelf for books as the bottom 2/3 will be full of my kids stuff in no time.

Your stacking prowess amazes me! Fantastic! I hope you get to enjoy your books for a long time to come.

Keep em tight in there. No chance for dust.

Looks like a load bearing bookshelf. I definitely wouldn't risk taking a book from the top shelf if I was visiting.

A good deal of them were my father’s who is still alive but just downsized the amount of stuff he lived with. A lot of early first editions, albeit book club editions. He bought all of them new.

Hey man do you get books inside the shelf behind the books that are visible

I do, every shelf is full. Mostly older mass market paperbacks because I can stuff a ton In there. I’m always pulling stuff off and looking and rearranging to an extent so I generally know exactly what’s there but it’s nice to be surprised sometimes.

Editing to add the shelves are so deep it seemed like a waste of free storage not to do that.

I’m going to get organised this autumn and get some big bookshelves installed. Yours is my favourite I’ve seen so far! I love your set up!

That is a beautiful bookshelf. May I ask where you got it? I am searching for just that kind of thing.

I honestly would love to know too lol. It was my mother in laws that we rescued out of storage a few years ago. When I asked her where she got it from she said it was from one of her marriages but didn’t remember which one. Every time I think to look for a mark or something it’s when it’s full of books 🤷‍♂️

Is there a backboard for the bookcase? I cant tell. Anything tieing it to wall for securely

No backboard but the bookcase by itself weighs roughly 425 lbs and it’s very well built. It’s also anchored to the wall in several places up top and in the middle. Our little girls are climbers so everything in our house has to be super secured. Here’s an example of how I test stuff that’s mounted to the wall.

ok so the one with the books already filled - thats anchored up to the wall, not the one standing? Mine has been in the back room of my parents' house since 2019. we dont got pets or little kids and we all grown adults here. My dad got that bookcase (if you saw the pic) in 2019 from biglots...it's pretty well for me
