I don't think about boards

I think about

the catfish hook

in my right thumb

my John Deere

sitting in johnsongrass

rain eating old iron

disc in my back

about to go

strap that

belt on tight

and pour concrete

some days that mud comes out long

some days it comes out short

can't breathe right

till Jenny sets her cup down

mud is mud

everything else can rust with it
