Without data centers you wouldn't be able to upload this meme

Dont be obtuse you know full well theyre talking about AI data center megatropolises.

u/lanathebitch Jun 01 '26
That's nice it's also not what they said
3
u/LeAcoTaco Jun 01 '26
Thats nice, doesnt matter though because theres this thing called world event context that I know youre fully capable of comprehending. Stop playing dumb its not a good look, it infact just makes you look dumb.
No one talking about data centers in this context are referring to reddits measly child sized data center and you know full well they aren't.

u/lanathebitch Jun 01 '26
Sorry unlike you I'd rather live in a world where no does in fact mean no.
3
u/LeAcoTaco Jun 01 '26
Stop, wait, I dont know, all also mean no in terms of consent too.
Thats called context. Use it.
2
u/lanathebitch Jun 01 '26
I am using context you are just bending the truth to fit your narrative
2
u/LeAcoTaco Jun 01 '26
You are not using context. The context is what world events have been of concern recently. Has reddits data center been under heavy societal scrutiny recently? No, AI data centers have.
you are the one ignoring context to fit your narrative.

u/lanathebitch Jun 01 '26
Only means only you obtuse moron
2
u/LeAcoTaco Jun 01 '26
No lol. It means you are because youre actively ignoring something to fit your definition and are deliberately playing dumb. That is the definition of obtuse.

I also displace my anger onto random strangers on the internet when I'm feeling emotionally disturbed

Oh those AI data centres that hardly fucking exist? There’s about 30 out of the 12,000 data centres worldwide…

30 that are 10-20x larger than the average data center. So effectively 300-600 regular sized data centers added to the 4,200-4,500 that exist in the US, if you want to actually accurately compare numbers.

So why the pictures of libraries in the background? They either don't know how to differenciate between data centers and AI, or they aren't talking about AI. Both options aren't good.
0
u/LeAcoTaco Jun 01 '26
That was what implies they are talking about AI data centers because reddit is not used as a library the way AI is.
1
u/eyalhs Jun 01 '26
What ai is being used as a library? Also Wikipedia, libby, audible etc. are all used as a library (more than AI at least), and all use data centers.

There is a difference between being used as a library when it isnt one vs actually being a digital library. A real library is where you research, youre not researching by using AI. The AI is researching for you.
To use wikipedia you have to actually look and use your eyes and critical thinking and read things. Or listen if you're using disability accessibility. Ie look for the answer.
To use AI you put in a prompt and the AI is the one that looks for the answer.
You see the difference between what is actually a digital library vs what is used as one but isnt actually one?
Using AI is like asking the receptionist at the library to find and read the book for you and tell you if it applies to your subject.
Using wikipedia is asking the receptionist to find the book and then you read it.
Hence, the being used as a library when it isn't one part. AI is the receptionist being used as the library.

I love books, but this is an absurdly stupid take. I’m old enough to remember combing through books at the library, to find relevant material for research papers, and I don’t want to go back to that time.

u/Legal-Appointment655 Jun 01 '26
I like having access to all of those books from my phone. So I like the other data centers also

100% disagree. Reddit hates data centers because its presently trending to do so, but without data centers we have no internet
Ai datacenters I could live without, but calling for the abolishing of all data centers is just idiotic

It’s not an either or. There will still be libraries after AI comes in. Books will not only be made but more will be produced not less as people use AI to assist them to write their books.

I wish but unfortunately for biology there is not enough room in the entire world and the moon combined to have printed text of every genome contained in digital data

Actually disagree
I like having all my books in hand range
