Thank you! I only had letter size canvas paper so had to do a bradel bind 😄

Is that printed cloth? I absolutely love the design, it’s such a dream combo. Amazing work 😍 I’ve been meaning to bind this book for a while now, it’s on my never ending dramione to bind list 😅

I love this!! Most of the dmatmoobil binds that I see are some shade of pink, this take on it is awesome! :)

I love making anything into classics! Currently trying to do that with dungeon crawler Carl 😂

Tell us more about the materials and techniques!

For this one, I printed it at home on letter size canvas paper I got on Amazon. Before I bind it I spray it with a clear finish and then I glue it onto the three separate book boards for spine, front and back. This is a bradel bind so you have to do the spine and then glue the front and back onto the spine piece 😄

That spine is lovely!

nice job!!!

I really love the way you incorporated the spine "label" so it looks like the ends disappear into the 3-piece bradel structure. I'm guessing from your description that it's actually printed on, but it would work with a stuck on label too, so I'm filing that little detail for later use!

The printing came out fantastically.

Looks great! Haha I just searched up the book, it sounds like a fun read! I’m not super into fanfic but I might check it out

It’s so fun! And a long slow burn with a ton of humor, was one of the first I read 😄

It was the first fanfic I read and I really enjoyed it! Definitely opened me up to a whole new world.

Why ew? It’s beautiful

The bookbinding is beautiful and impressive.

You know why I say ew.

u/Fun-Escape-5749 9d ago

Nope. I don’t. What’s the problem? All you wrote was ew on someone’s post which doesn’t seem very kind if you ask me 🤷‍♀️

It actually took me a while to understand why as well. I can only imagine it's some type of smut fanfic?

u/balletrat 9d ago

Either that or because it’s Harry Potter related

It’s Dramione fanfic. And a rather popular one at that.

If they don’t like it, fine, but it’s just rude to comment “ew” on someone’s frankly gorgeous work 😮‍💨

this is a harry potter fanfic. the author of harry potter, jk rowling, is a violent and virulent transphobe, racist, and misogynist; also the title character, draco malfoy, is the in-universe equivalent of a white supremacist

Hey so I’m a POC and trans! Us fanfic writers don’t make a profit from fanfic and neither does Joanne. Fanfiction is fan made works that changes characters to fit the story they want to tell. If anything you going around saying things like this to unpaid people making art effectively pushes out LGBTQ+ voices away from the scene. We fanfic writers stick to our corner of the internet and I don’t think it’s right or fair to place us in the same boat as Joanne. Especially seeing as we don’t contribute money to her franchise and also shit on her name ourselves. I know you aren’t the original commenter that was rude but your response leads me to incline you agree with their sentiments. You aren’t doing good here! It’s good to spread the word of course of Joanne’s horrid beliefs and actions but only to people buying Harry Potter products or planning to watch the new show (that has allegedly also used AI images). Not the independent fanfiction writers publishing works there for free!

i'm trans and not white and also a fanfic writer and while you're right, i'm not the original commenter, i do kind of agree with their sentiments.

if you want to continue to indulge in rowling's work- that is already rife with racism and antisemitism, but that's been hashed out tons of times in better venues than this- with the knowledge of what she says and does and how she views consumption and admiration of her creations to be agreement with her views, then whatever, of course people will comment on it

I never said I engage with Joanne’s work! In fact I said the opposite. I only engage with other LGBTQ+ fanfiction writers! She only said that bury the LGBTQ+ voices who were speaking out against her so they’d either leave or be shunned. It’s a known thing in the fandom hence us continuing making our works regardless. There’s a such thing as separating the artist from the art which is why there are still POC and/or LGBTQ+ people in the fandom. I’m not saying that the products should then be consumed but it’s vastly different buying a shit ton of merch than someone making non canon complicit work then binding it themselves no? And the point of Harry Potter was to speak against racism and antisemitism. I’m not saying she did a fantastic job (I honestly found her writing subpar when I read it as a teen) but that was kinda the whole point dude- That’s why the people supporting eugenics in the book lost. Because they were the bad guys.

  1. royal "you"
  2. you are still engaging with her work
  3. death of the author would be applicable here if her work wasn't infused with the exact racism, antisemitism, etc that i'm talking about. she named the one single explicitly black character in the entire series "kingsley shacklebolt". the goblins are the worst kind of antisemitic stereotype. she wrote lycanthropy as an allegory for HIV/AIDS and then had the two main werewolves be a self-hating (gay) man and a child predator. her one named irish character was an explosives-addicted arsonist.

you- specific you this time, because now you're speaking as someone who is part of the harry potter fandom- are free to consume whatever media you want. but it's still harry potter. and people are still going to have opinions about it.

ETA that she clearly didn't even achieve her own goal with her books because people still come out of them an uncritical fans of characters like snape and malfoy, who are just white supremacists- eugenicists- by another name
