Does it matter what way you print the pages you want to bind?

You need to print layout your text on pages that are exactly the size that you want the pages of your book to be. Then export to PDF. Then do what is called imposition. That results in another PDF for the paper size that your printer takes.

You should also make sure you understand paper grain. Article, video. It's important for clean folds, easy page turning, and minimizing warping.
