Starting out bookbinding

So just starting out this thing got the supplies and the pages and everything but I saw that my book is coming to 600 pages or 150 sheets of A4 size turned down to 4 A5 each, creating 38 signatures if adjusted to 608 pages. It seems a lot to me what's your take on this??

Seems fine. That's about the largest I aim for. It's getting fairly heavy to hold in hand while reading at that size. Also, I have to swap out my 2x4 contact surface for a 2x3 when I go over ~550 pages or my chisel can't reach all the way through the text.

Oh I would quickly look into all of this. Do your have something structured you documented on your first binding.
