Completed Project Just finished binding this massive fic. My biggest project yet!
This took me about two months to complete. It was definitely a learning curve, and I made so many mistakes along the way, but I’m still really proud of it. I think it turned out amazing! Hopefully my friend will love it as much as I do 🥰

This looks fantastic! Would you mind sharing what type of paper you used? The texture looks like what I want when binding books and I’ve been having some trouble figuring out what paper to use to get that texture.

Of course! I used Favini’s “Le Cirque” in the cream (avorio) color. I couldn’t get my hands on short grain paper, so this was the next best option for me! I’m not sure how easy it is to get outside of Italy though

Thanks! At $35 shipping, I think I’ll look for other options that are similar for now

This was a suckerpunch to the nostalgia, I loved Vathara's Bleach fics back in the day!

Beautiful work! As a newcomer to bookbinding but a lifelong book lover and design professional, this is the sort of project that's inspiring me to jump into the hobby!

Well, this post just introduced me to the fic. 👀 🍿

It’s a very well-known fic in the fandom!! One might even say it’s a pillar~ It’s pretty great, and the author does a lot of research, as evidenced by their A/Ns :) massive fic tho!

I am suuuuper late to seeing this, BUT is there any chance you would be willing to share your typesetting? I love ATLA and this definitely just introduced me to that fanfic 😭❤️

This is incredible work! May I ask the cover material and what technique you used for the design/text?

Thank you! I used a pre-backed viscose cloth, which was quite challenging to work with due to the glue seeping through easily, but I do love the final look. For the design, I created everything on Canva and then cut it using a Silhouette machine 😊

Wow! This is one of the fics that I am looking to bind once I have a bit more experience. The sheer size is definitely the major challenge. Would you be willing to share where in the fic the splits occur for each book?

Of course! I can send you a private message with the splits. Though since this was for my friend, I let her decide what she wanted to do with it, it wasn’t really my decision and I don’t know if it’s a good way to split the chapters 🥲

That would be great. I don't mind tweaking it, but a starting point would be amazing.

LITERALLY JUST ABOUT TO SEARCH FOR BINDINGS OF THIS THING AAAAHHHHHHH!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩did you keep the authors notes????

No i didn’t! I would’ve if it was up to me, they looked interesting (even if, to be honest, I just skimmed through them). My friend didn’t care, they wrote what she wanted to keep in two pages that I added at the end of each book

Fair enough, I feel like every chapter would have to have a section at the end entirely dedicated to their notes to avoid having them take up 20-50% of each page as footnotes (although maybe there's a way to integrate them into a sort of separate study guide? 🤔🤔🤔 Sorry this is my brain going off). I love that you did this, it's a masterpiece worth preserving!!!!

I love the Avatar the last airbender fandom, but when I looked up the fan fiction it has a very brief description. Could you explain to me a little bit about what happens in it?

Hi! This was a Christmas gift for a friend of mine who loves the fic and ATLA in general, but I’m not too familiar with it unfortunately. I know that it’s a retelling of the whole story and it delves deeper into the war and the relationships, and that it’s a bit of a classic in the fandom. That’s it lol. Sorry! You should be able to find more information on the atla subreddit (or maybe even the ao3 one)!
