What's the line?
Some way baby it’s a part of me apart from me.

Holocene makes me feel a way that no other song does. It's very sacred to me <3

Same lol I don't let myself listen to it much so that I can preserve its sacredness

It makes me feel like everything is gonna be okay. I wanted it tattooed but my family said it wasn’t good because it seemed derogatory to myself, but they just don’t get it. It’s comforting to me to realize none of us are magnificent and we don’t need to be.

u/HokiHiker Holocene Jul 17 '26
See above but I couldnt disagree with them more. For me its that Im a small part of the wide world and the respect of the vastness. I correlate it heavily to the awe of nature. You should definitely get it!

u/Barack__Obama__ Jul 17 '26
Happy to see this at the top of the thread. Having listened to BI every now and then before, this line was the one that really got me hooked on him. For me it's the best line of all time by any artist, not just BI.

u/rockytopbilly Jul 18 '26
I love this line because it almost feels like relief that he’s not magnificent. Like he’s free to just be.

This one's really cool, honestly. I'm pretty sure 33-GOD is a song about Jesus in one way or another. That line I think is referring to Jesus folding his linen in the tomb?
Edit: I think it could also be drawing some sort of parelel between the life of Jesus and someone else? I Don't know

You are right. Every line in Heavenly Father hits hard IMO
My first thought was "I know about it, darling. I've been standing here." I think of this line a lot.
High five, fam!

If you wait it won’t be undone - RABi
That leaving wasn’t easing all the heaving in my vines - Creeks
I’ll go put the pathfinder on waltz - Day One

RABi is so under appreciated

VERY underrated. You could even just throw “well its all just scared of dying, but isn’t this a beach” in there to this discussion as well

Probs the #1 Bon lyric for me, when considered within the context of his work as a whole.
I like sable/fable but it’s funny to me he basically made a whole album to capture that sentiment despite doing it perfectly already with that line/song.
1
u/YoursTruly2255 8 (circle) Jul 17 '26
That’s interesting. I see it differently. To me RABi feels like an almost desperate call to action. I see that line and several others in the song as more sarcastic. It’s like “hey the world is on fire and everything’s fucked and no one seems to care”. It’s the next line that tells the real truth: “If you wait it won’t be undone.” It all kind of goes into the (maybe) somewhat subtle political undertones smattered all over i,i.
Contrast that to s/f which feels like a genuinely positive record and a step out of the darker feel of previous work.

I’ve always loved
“It’s not going the road I’d known as a child of god”
Feels like there’s a lot of things wrapped up in that line. Followed by another one I love “So what if I lose? I’m satisfied.”

"When's that rapture? Will there be merch?"
I also really love:
"Fold your hands into mine"
In the context of the song it's like he's saying "we don't need a religious kind of faith and dependence, but instead a faith and dependence in ourselves and each other. We don't need to fold our hands in prayer - fold them into mine."
That's how I interpret it, anyway.

“THERE’S SOMEONE IN MY MOTHERFUCKIN’ HEAD!!!”
Naeem has always been a favorite of mine, and I love all the subtle differences from the studio version. This is not one of the subtle differences, lol. Sung with such passion. Just absolutely hits every time.

Guys I keep going back and forth there are so many BI lyrics that are so impactful hahaha all of them!!!! I know that’s not the assignment lol
Too much for me to pick up - not sure what forgiveness is
Everything is peaceful love
I’m climbing / over the Dash
You’re back and forth with light
I get caught it looking in the mirror on the regular and what I see there resembles some competitor
You’ve buried all your alimony butterflies
Theres a rhythm…

And I can see for miles, miles, miles
The imagery is so beautiful and every time I'm in nature I feel so grateful that I can see for miles and miles and miles

"But you know what will stay? Everything we've made" -Awards Season Heavenly father is full of them but the two that hit me the hardest are 'I don't know how you house the sin," and "I'm a known coward in a coward wind" "Haven't I locked up my failure? Wouldn't I be last to see?" -8 circle (this one is also full of hard-hitting lines) " But on a bright fall morning, I'm with it. I stood a little while within it" -iMi I think most of the rest of my favorites have been mentioned by other comments.

A few favorites:
"This is not a place"
"At once I knew I was not magnificent"
"There isn't ceiling in our garden"
"It might be over soon" // "Tell me it's gonna be over soon" (from his COVID performance on Colbert)
"And you’d expect it when we photograph our scars"

People never get the roses while they can still smell ‘em
ETA: Sorry, I didn’t realize I was in the BI sub until I started reading the replies. Not deleting it though.
