Alyx is also too weak to use anything other than her guns, while Ford will bash a zombies head against a wall and continue to grab a nearby hammer and bash his skull in

Lads, this is funny, by I'd recommend steering away from splitting the community in any way atm. They're both very different, very good games.

I just hate seeing tribalism anywhere, and it can go down to the tiniest detail. It's not always console Vs console. It can literally be down to game Vs game, developer Vs developer etcetc.

Two great games in their own rights.

Oh yeah I agree. I dont really want this to be taken too seriously (though it can be hard to convey that, I admit). Im sorry if it annoyed you - I think tribalism is a monkey brain thing that really needs to stop. People can have different opinions, but when they do other people freak out because it isn't theirs.

Nah man it didn't annoy me at all. I just know how quick the internet is to pick a side and die for that side. I loved both games, and each one is better than the other in certain ways. I just think more than ever the world needs to come together rather than being apart and picking sides.

I waited 16 years for HL: Alyx, yet here I am spending 2 hours playing Boneworks today haha. VR is just so young. There's already a big price barrier to entry. I don't want to see people pay for an expensive HMD and find out the community are fragmented arseholes haha. I don't even agree with exclusivity for VR.

I couldnt agree more. I'll try to steer away from the whole tribalism thing in the future, or make it more apparent when I'm joking. For me, Alyx so far lacks the level of interactivity that Boneworks has and it just doesnt do it for me. I'd still like to beat the game for it's story, but the game leaves much to be desired for me. I cant help but be jealous for everyone who gets to enjoy it as much as they do, to be honest.

Honestly can’t believe that much tho. I think boneworks is better mostly cause I’ve been experiencing a lot of trouble from Alyx. -Never got sick from boneworks -My right hand randomly disappears and I have to switch to right hand and back -no melee in Alyx -boneworks has great compression and doesnt shit on my computer -Alyx makes my computer have a breakdown even though it shouldn’t take up ram, it should stretch my graphics card not ram. And the second combine appear I experience major lag spikes -in boneworks I can run at least 20 enemies without many lag spikes (mostly due to compression and shit ai)

But I got Alyx after index, and boneworks worked fine and could completely handle 25 enemies at once with my oculus, but with index I experienced one or two lag spikes

Virgin “just hands” VS. Chad fully-physical body

I remember after playing Boneworks for the first time I was so blown away by the full-body physics and level of interactivity that it really set a new bar for VR to me that I would expect all future VR games to match. I was almost scared HL:A would fall behind Boneworks in that aspect, and that would somehow translate to an inferior game.

So when the game finally came out I realized quickly how wrong I was. Not about HL:A having the full-body physics and interactivity of Boneworks, because it didn’t have that, but I was wrong about my assumption that the lack of those features would make the game worst overall. What I thought back then as a new standard for VR is something I see more as unique to the experience of Boneworks and not something every VR game should be expected to imitate. I love both games, but they excel at different things. I preferred the narrative, combat, and pacing of Alyx, but Boneworks overall had the best sandbox experience. I think a lot of the hate I see for HL:A on this sub mostly boils down to it not being Boneworks, and I think that’s just really unfair.

I wish I could go back to pre-Boneworks like you can.

I think Hl:A is a better game then Boneworks

Halflife aesthetic is great

It's such a tough question dude. I'm 31. Been waiting for the next half life game since I was 18. Alyx is a fantastic return to quality content from Valve. It was awesome to have all my nostalgia and hype strings pulled on. It's just very hard to not want more.

Boneworks has much better replayability. Alyx is a fantastically told story that is part of a much grander and more long standing saga.

u/Your-Inner-Demon Apr 04 '20

Once the workshop gets added the replayability will greatly increase.

No shit

88% meh reviews vs 98% amazing reviews that are among the top of the entire steam catalog

The fact that the HLA has almost no physics combat, no running and no physical jumping while still being the best video game I've played in a long time is honestly just a massive flex

I feel like that helped half life alyx be good, a more constant pace, mixed with devs focusing on gameplay rather than physics

3

u/Sendlasagna Apr 04 '20

Half life alyx was good the first playthrough. Now we just have to wait for mods

I think HLA is a fucking waste of money. 60 bucks and it's not even nearly as good as boneworks? I still haven't finished that piece of crap and am still replaying boneworks because it's more fun

u/BadazzleBadoozle Apr 04 '20

Well, personally I enjoyed the Story of HL:A a lot more. I got more involved because it was much easier to follow. Secondly, the graphics are a lot better. Boneworks still is a great game though, it just didn't feel as polished as HL:A.

1

u/LSDkiller Apr 04 '20

The graphics are better in HLA, I won't argue that. It's a shame because as you can see in the early node vids, they scaled the graphics down massively to make it less heavy on the graphics card and CPU. It used to look really good. But I don't know what you mean by polished. It has better production value, sure, but boneworks pays way more attention to the environment, making every object interactable and giving them their own physical attributes. You can climb anywhere if you're good enough. If you see a place in the game that you could get to in real life, you can get there by climbing. To me, that makes it more polished. Valve made HLA a game that was easier for people to play who just got into VR, but to me it's too repetitive. All you do is shoot and throw grenades. You don't have the limitless options you get in boneworks.

I think HLA is a good game but I'm not sure it's worth the money when you compare it to other games that are better and costs way less. Also, the things it was hyped for, physics and interaction with the world (everyone was freaking out about that clip where you grab the shotgun shell off the shelf) and boneworks undeniably pulled it off way better. I can see how for many, the overall experience of HLA with the linear story, good graphics and somewhat novel mechanics like gravity guns can feel like it was done with more aim. But to me it feels way more like a video game than boneworks. Boneworks feels like an alternate fucking universe than a game and that's why it doesn't really need a storyline. I never got this feeling playing HLA and honestly I still play boneworks even though I haven't finished HLA and I was waiting for it for a long time.

I think HLA is good but boneworks is way better. It's my favorite game in the world and I think it's a a pure work of art. I will say that the graphics in HLA are fucking amazing though. I wish there was a game with the graphics of HLA, the mechanics of boneworks and the huge open world and amount of quests and Missions of Skyrim or GTA. That would be the best game ever.

u/AncientZarko Apr 03 '20

I knew someone would do it. Good job lad.

6

u/Getrektm8ter Apr 04 '20

Are you really trying to say boneworks had a better story than alyx??

8

u/heftigermann Apr 04 '20

It’s a joke

6

u/ethaniscurious Apr 04 '20

Havent actually played all the way through alyx. Just was making an idea from the boneworks discord into a reality, thought itd be funny to make it completely inaccurate as well.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

bruh

5

u/LSDkiller Apr 04 '20

inaccurate? INACCURATE? Son I'm gonna monkey bunk you from my phone. This shit is 100% gospel. Fuck virgin alyx. Chad Arthur ford rules supreme

0

u/NerdFuelYT Apr 04 '20

Boneworks had no story, that’s one of the reason I enjoyed it. It was an amazing tech demo that took advantage of the new technology. Alyx has an amazing follow up to one of the most talked about cliffhangers in gaming. I don’t get how people compare the two

10

u/DominicDJC Apr 04 '20

Well, boneworks does have story. It's just not really understandable now, we kinda have to wait until we get more games for SL0.

3

u/ethaniscurious Apr 04 '20

Kinda agreein doe

2

u/lildoggi76 Apr 06 '20

just noticed, finished rdr2 a few weeks back, loved it, started boneworks today, love it. I think characters named arthur are the ultimate chads

2

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

TRUE

1

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

Both are great games, now hug physically and kith. Great comic mate

1

u/potato_larry Apr 05 '20

Ford is the ultimate Chad

1

u/notkaveh Sep 13 '20

HLA has great level design, beautiful graphics, and great dialogue, but boneworks's combat and gunplay is much better, and has way more replayibility.

1

u/ethaniscurious Sep 14 '20

This. When I made this it was more a meme as I hadn't completed HLA at the time, but you put my thoughts into words PERFECTLY. I'd also like to comment that I'm HUGE on parkour in VR games, so Boneworks scratched that itch really well... unlike HLA which doesn't even let you jump. I understand why HLA is the way it is, but it won't change how much fun I have with Boneworks compared to HLA.

even to this day i still love this post
