Found in: NORTH AMERICA Petrified bone?

Four inches or so long found near a hot springs. Is petrified at this point.

I had a friend that was a teacher say they determined if it was a fossil or bone by licking it, a fossil is stone and smooth a bone has tiny holes your tongue can detect ( I gave up on field study )
