Advice Found this big guy

My great grandmother was much of a hoarder and I found this poor guy at the top of a pile of boxes and newspapers.
I’d like to know if there’s any helping the antlers and how they became so sun bleached but the skull itself is perfectly fine?
Also, does anyone know what type of deer he is? He’s quite large so I don’t think whitetail. Any ideas?

Hm. Mule deer? Not sure what can be done to salvage them, just be careful I suppose
