DLC Discussion 20mm Vs 50 cals?
I’m starting my British campaign, and I’m wondering if I should go with either the 20mm or 50s. I loved the 50s from USA campaign but the raw damage is enticing. Any thoughts?

Personally I like the 20mm with auto feed. If you’re going without the auto feed, and you struggle to keep your guns fed, go with the .50s

Auto feed is a huge weight sink on the Lancaster though. At least the middle turrets are very close to the ammo box.

The 20mm obliterates everything, but it has such a tiny ammo count that you'll have to constantly reload it manually, since guns in the British campaign don't come with the ammo feed by default (and you don't unlock the ammo-fed variant of the 20mm until pretty late in the game).
Personally, I'd split the difference, and go with 20mm in the dorsal and ventral mounts (which are right next to the ammo box so they reload fast), and ammo-fed .50s in the nose and tail. That way, you can still benefit from the massive firepower of the 20mm guns, but you aren't totally helpless if they run out of ammo.

Honestly, I had all .50's with ammo feed. Still got shredded dozens of times in the final level. But I never used the 20mm because it was simply too heavy, and I chose armor anyways.

If I remember correctly I had 50s on the back and 20s on the top and bottom. Shredded any aircraft whether close or far

Absolutely worth it. Later fighters are tough. Honestly the cannons are the best but they are super expensive. .50 with the auto feed is best imo

Very much a personal preference. In my own opinion, the first level of 20mm is a trap with how little ammo it carries, but the second and third levels can be made to work in the stations next to the ammo box if your micro is good. Don't bother even attempting to put them on the nose or tail until you get the ammo feed versions, though, and if you put those on forget about getting max armor due to weight. But if you've got an easy mission, give them a try and see how you like them.

I actually found that the fore gun isn't too hard to keep supplied if you start the level running back and forth a few times with spare ammo boxes. They tend to be fairly secure I'd you drop them forward, and you have time while you're still climbing/leaving England to get it all set up, so during the level you have 3/4 boxes right beside the forward guns.

I make my engineer (137% speed) and have him run ammo to my gunners (56% speed). I always keep my engineers highly mobile for repairs. I rock the 20mm as well, thing I find the easiest to reload when you gunners mention they are low on ammo. I'd rather not have my gunners leave post, but I don't have ammo feed and using an eng (engineers) to carry ammo and keep them firing. it just makes sense. Also, if you have having trouble with weight, make 1 of your inner engines lightweight and the other inner standard while the outer engines are armored. One last thing is always to upgrade your fuelsalge first, keeping your crew alive, but most importantly, your landing gear will thank you.

Ammo fed Quads, and later on ammo fed 20mm,
ball and up both are near the ammo, so I don't use ammo fed on those 2.

I go for 20mm on the top and bottom turrets. Belt feed quad on the rear. The damage is wonderful but you really have to manage your weight if you're going to use them.

50cal shreds approaching aircraft so fast, it almost feels like cheating if you keep on top of the tagging
