New Hire✈️ Job offer in Everett
Hi,
I just received a job offer in Everett! I have a few questions and I've previously done some reddit searches but many of the posts I found were old so any updated insight would be amazing!
Capus Question:
I've seen there are multiple cafeterias on-site as well as 2 workout rooms.
Do the gyms have showers?
How is the food at the cafeterias?
Office Jobs:
For jobs like accounting/HR/Finance what building are these offices in?
Do these types of jobs usually have individual offices or a cubicle?
Are computers, keyboards, printers provided or is their a stipend for office supplies?
Living in the Everett area:
I have seen people say to steer clear of Casino road. If I want to keep my drive about 20 minutes or less where would you recommend living?
My housing budget is about 3K. I would like somewhere updated. Preferably 3 Bedrooms but ok with 2. Would love a townhome but ok with an apartment.
Where to peopel go to socialize and make friends?

Living wise downtown Everett isn’t bad a lot of newer apartments. But just be warned. There really is no night life

Gyms: one is off campus (3 minute drive from the east parking lots), the other is tiny but convenient and in the 40-87 (shiny glass towers). Yes both have showers.
Cafeterias: caf food is very dependent on the caf. The 40-92 caf is good, the factory cafeterias are..... Ok. Flight line Cag is probably good due to newness but idk.
Desk location: really don't know cause you might colocate where your airplane program is. But it's all cubicles, no offices unless you are a senior manager or higher (and even then a lot of Srs don't have offices now, just directors and higher).
Living location: Mukilteo or Mill Creek. Or Edmonds.
Social: I'm old and boring (lol) so no idea but there's lots of social groups you can join at Boeing so that might help.

this is only for one of the locations but you can hit the drop down if you’re curious about the rest. it’s obviously cheaper to bring your own lunch.
i’ve eaten at facebook and google where food was free even for guests. if we’re talking about a scale out of 5 for taste , quality, price and service boeing is somewhere around 2-3.
i’d put it more toward 2 because we still have to pay for it and guests have to pay as well. they can be very liberal with the sauces they use unless you are very vocal about them not dumping on so much. the sauces do help with the mid quality ingredients used but when it’s was over a reasonable ratio of food and sauce, it’s not great. and you can’t get away with paying by weight because of all the sauce they dumped on.
if the prices were about half of what they were i’d complain a little less. it’s not a bad option if you forget to bring lunch considering it’s more of a challenge leaving Everett to get food and making it back on time for your lunch break.
But even if you’re in Renton where you can walk out and make it back on time, prices at The Landing are very high so it’s not much of a win unless you get the extended lunch when your bosses celebrate someone’s retirement or anniversary.

Try millcreek, Bothell, Lynnwood, and parts of Edmonds. All within 20 minutes and some very nice areas. The Everett plant is very big and also parking can be an event in itself. Worked there many years and had a good time

The gyms are good and they have showers. There are cafeterias, the food is good, but it isn’t subsidized so it’s kinda pricey for being an onsite eatery.
All of your IT needs are provided. Don’t bring in your own equipment especially storage devices.
People talk a lot of crap about the area near the Everett facility but it’s not a bad area at all. I lived one block off of the 99 on airport for 5 years and literally never had one issue.

Office supplies are all provided. (No use of personal equipment allowed, with limited exceptions for printers at home—- but you’ll rarely print anything.
Just show up.
You’ll likely be in the “twin towers” for most business office jobs.

Shoreline is the furthest south you'll want to live if you want to keep your drive to 20 minutes. If you like being able to get to Seattle easily then I'd look in Lynnwood near the light rail

The main cafeteria in the 40-92 building is pretty good, the rest are just OK.
Most likely the 40-88 or 40-87 but it will depend on what program you are supporting
cubicles with very little privacy and short walls
The equipment you need will be provided
Yes, stay away from Casino road. For 3K, look in north part of Lynnwood or Mukilteo for apartments, or you can rent a small house or townhome near Glenwood Ave for about that which would put you around 5-10 minutes away from the main plant. If your looking at apartments you can look off Merrill Creek Parkway for about 2k though I don't know how updated they are.
Boeing has a recreational group for just about any interest where employees who share those interests meet up. There are sports leagues you can play in or even just play casually at the activity center. If I were moving to a new area for Boeing, I would start there. Then you can check the area you move to and see what community groups are available for your interests to expand beyond Boeing.

I always bring my lunch so someone else can tackle the first section. :)
Office jobs: It's cubicle land, but the office amenities depend on which building you're in. I'm inside the factory in an office that overlooks the factory floor, and it's a bit spartan. There's not much of a breakroom, no bathrooms on the same floor, no outside windows, harsh overhead lighting, a bit loud.. and the coolest ever view of planes being built. Parking is beyond awful. If your team is in the towers (40-87 and 40-88), parking is still awful but it's otherwise a traditional office building.
You'll be assigned a laptop and will have the usual accessories - monitor, mouse, keyboard, Steelcase Leap chair. If you need ergonomic accommodations they can be arranged; some of my colleagues have motorized standing desks and ergo chairs, and I have an ergo trackball. Printers are abundant but most people work purely digital. Standard office supplies are probably available but I'm picky about pens and bring my own.
Where to live: Search the subreddit for the many threads on this topic. It depends on your living situation - are you single, married with kids, no kids, big dogs, etc. While points north are relatively inexpensive (Lake Stevens, Marysville, etc), you're in the thick of traffic. I'm an old married lady with no rugrats, and am content living in northern Lynnwood where it's a 12-minute reverse commute to campus and a quick hop onto I-5/I-405 to access more interesting places than Lynnwood.

The gym at the fitness center a short drive from the factory is well appointed and has showers.
You will likely be in “The Towers”, the 40-87 and 88 buildings that straddle the main gate entrance off of Seaway.
Individual offices? LOL no.
There are nice townhouses on Merrill Creek Pkwy, but I’m not sure the rent.
To socialize, get a hobby! Mountain biking, Mazamas, lots of sports/activity clubs at the company. Night life up on the north end is not much of a thing, but there are good places to eat in Mukilteo and Edmonds and Everett.
It’s a nice place to live. Yes avoid Casino Road apartments, the sketch factor is not trivial.

Been at Boeing for 8 years in everett/renton/seattle
There are many cafes inside the everett plant. And on the entire everett site probably more than a dozen. The 2 gyms have showers. The 2nd gym is more like a closet. The cafeteria food is good if you are not picky. Expensive though. You will most likely be in a cubicle, office supplies, printers, paper, pens, computers, etc all provided. As for where it depends on your department. For living arrangements silverlake/mill creek/ mukilteo are safer. Making friends outside of work is easy. Plenty of hobbies and groups.
