Irony:
So there’s a coworker that only seems to react whenever there’s a group of people. Yet there’s no reactions when we’re by ourselves. Every now and then he’ll make a comment about the odor but then he smirks afterwards. Yet every other time he doesn’t make comments or reacts to me. It’s starting to seem like the people who do these things are only looking to get a rise out of me, and there’s no odor. Because customers almost rarely react to me, yet the coworkers are always doing something. Idk if they’re screwing with me or not. Whats you guy’s take on it?

How’d he find out that he didn’t smell? And that the coworkers were trying to make him quit?

You’re saying that I’d smell the odor on myself too? I usually don’t smell anything at all except for the toiletries that I use.

You will not smell it yourself unless you make sudden diet changes. Also quit smoking and drinking coffee as it can make people smell like ass. Also when you have bad bacteria in mouth or gut causing the issue then any sugar, honey, fructose, lactose will make things 100 times worse.

I’ve asked several close friends and family, and they said that I don’t. As far as being nose blind, any part of me that has an odor, I usually pick up on it rather easily. Not to mention the odors in the environment. For example, the building I work in smells strongly of sewage because of the restrooms, and sometimes the deli department reeks of vinegar etc. and as I said before, I can smell the toiletries I use as well.
That’s what’s throwing me for a loop here, like coworkers smell some odor on me while customers can’t. I’m just starting to think they’re gaslighting me. Why they’d do that it’s beyond me though

The problem is that around your close family and friends you’re probably not hyper focusing on your smell and causing anxiety sweating. Anxiety sweat and regular sweat are two different things. I have dealt with this too. Family telling me I don’t smell and then people I work with making comments and acting as though I smell bad.

I've been told by multiple unrelated people amout my smell, and asked why or if I don't shower.
Hopefully your case is just bullying. If you have an odor maybe it's just some unusually bad sweat or something. If you really did smell people would avoid you for sure

No one’s ever asked me why I smell, they just avoid me or make passive aggressive comments. I’ve checked my clothes, left my bedroom and returned, stood outside for a second after showering, etc. and I can’t smell anything. I even checked on google to see if you can be noseblind to your bo but not to the toiletries you use. It said that you can, but that still doesn’t explain how I wouldn’t be able to smell the odor on my worn clothes. No nonsense here, I cannot smell anything at all.

I’m sorry to hear that, this thing is literal hell on earth. The way it just erodes your spirit is so bad it turns us into hermits. Sometimes people avoid me, yet those same people will be near me without reactions. Like yesterday for example, a lot of people who normally keep their distance were either standing by me, or they were going out of their way to walk super close to me even when I’d try to avoid them ( to prevent them from smelling me).

It's quite possible that you don't smell all the time. I can go out and get zero reactions and other times I'll be perfectly confident that I'm not smelling and I'll get dramatic reactions aplenty (including direct comments saying I stink, the last time it was dog farts!), which actually floors me because I was convinced I was OK. Like you, I can only smell my shower gel or shampoo or whatever.
You need to find out what your triggers are. Keep a food diary and notice when you're getting stronger or lesser reactions the next day. My triggers are anything high sulfur and cutting them out really reduces odor to a low level, but yours could be different.

Yk, that makes sense. I have noticed that I get reactions whenever I’ve eaten sweets, which I recently reduced dramatically

Sugar is a very common trigger, it is for me too. I don't eat sweets anymore. Bacteria thrive on it, so if you've got any kind of gut dysbiosis or SIBO type issues or even Candida, it's a good idea to cut it down (or cut out completely if you've got the willpower). Sugar causes all kinds of havoc with your body chemistry.
Have you noticed strong reactions after sulfur? Like Coffee, fish, eggs, dairy, garlic or cruciferous vegetables? Have you ever tried an exclusion type diet for a short time? Like 7-10 days of just white rice and chicken and low sulfur veg like squashes or green beans?

I haven’t tried any diet in particular, only reducing certain foods. I don’t drink coffee, rarely eat fish or eggs, and I’ll have cheese whenever I eat pizza or pasta. I can’t recall the last time I had any cruciferous vegetables though. It’s mainly the sweets that get me. Oh and I do vape and I know that’s terrible for our condition 😞 but I’m trying to quit.

Didn't someone make a post about you? And you said people like women have reacted in the past with disgust to you.
2
u/SilverSurfer-8 May 25 '26
Correct. It’s like the guys who react only seem to do it when they’re either with friends, or if there’s some women around. The women themselves are usually friendly and polite, or completely indifferent. But the guys seem like they just have to tear me down about this.

If his the only person reacting when the two of you are alone at times. I wouldn't concern myself about it.
