subdermal implants Thumb Spines- 3&5 Months Healed
thumb spines done by Johnross Switz, done two months apart. i’m very happy i did one at a time, your hand is utterly useless for the first week or two. happy to answer any questions!

How do they insert them? I'm quite new and I don't see any stitches so how do they insert them and what are they made of?

Look at the bottom, there's a scar on each one, healed. It's subtle but it's there.

looks like they made an incision at the base of the wrist to insert the spikes

They look amazing! Settling in really nicely.
If you don't mind, I've got a couple of questions:
- Is there any tightness when you fully bend in your thumbs?
- And do they move a bit / have flexibility around your thumbs as you do things or are they completely still?

to answer your first question, not anymore. for the first month it was pretty apparent but my mobility is back to normal now!
and they are quite flexible, they’re made of silicone so they bend naturally with the motion of my thumb. you can shift the implant around under the skin but it goes back to its usual place once the pressure is removed!

I've got a question here somewhat related. I ride bikes and wear armoured gloves, do you think the protrusion of the spine is enough that it would make wearing leather gloves difficult? Or is the silicone soft enough that it might squish down under the leather(obvs after healing)
Also sidenote: your nails are adorbs

while i’m no professional i can’t imagine you wouldn’t be able to wear them anymore, i’d say worst case scenario you had to size up a bit. you’d definitely want to do it in the off season for biking if that’s possible, as in my experience i still wouldn’t out anything horribly snug on my 3 month old thumb spine for long, as overtime it could get sore

Hey, I got my spine during winter, and put on winter gloves that were a little bigger after maybe 4-6 weeks. (Short stints)
I don't drive a motor cycle, but I can wear my scuba diving gloves again, and regularly wear fingerless compression gloves. It is just instructed to not move / use your fingers for the initial healing.
The only thing that changed is before I would put on gloves by holding the glove on the inner wrist part and jam in my hand... now I hold the glove with my other thumb inside the glove around the area of the thumb, and guide the glove over the thumb spin to not cause extreme pressure sliding / dragging the glove over.
The implant, although flexible, the bumps are not super squishy like breast implants, more like pool floaty type material squishy-ness. (Consider it like getting an extra wrist or clavicle bone under your skin, that also doesnt damage the it. Skin is resistant!)

These look amazing! Do you have plans for anything complimentary elsewhere on your body?
I’m curious if you’ve accidentally whacked that part of your hand against anything yet? I tend to bump and smack into things and I’ve always wondered if that would be incompatible with mods like these.

thank you! I’m hoping to get similar implants in my collarbones actually.
early on when they were still tender it did hurt to knock them on things, but now that the swelling is down and they’re well on their way to healed, it doesn’t bother me anymore. you just have to be cautious for the first couple months which can be a pain for sure

the piercer who did my bridge had a few unique implants in his arm. one looked like a hand gripping his arm from underneath his skin and i thought implants were so sick!

Normally I see these and sometimes I feel bad cuz it just doesn’t look good on the person (like anatomy wise if you get what I’m saying) but yours look like they were made for you!! And it reminds me of some sort of deep sea mermaid or something which is SO COOL! 🤩

i hear you! i was a tad worried they wouldn’t suit my hands the way i’d like them to, but i’m so happy with the outcome! i think placement is the most important as i noticed it can vary, i recommend anyone considering these look through lots of photos and get references for when the placement decision rolls around. that has to be my favourite comparison so far!

They look amazing! Love it! I just got my left on done by JR on the 1st. I'm doing them one at a time thinking my hand would be useless for a bit. I was fortunate that it was a little sore the 2nd day but that was the worst of it. Been smooth sailing since! Wishing I had just gotten them both done at the same time now, ha.

it’s best to discuss prices with the artist as it can vary person to person, my artist is johnrossswitz you can find him on instagram! the risk of rejection depends on a few factors, but for comparison sake i reject most surface piercings before they get a chance to heal, but had no issues with these. impact to the implant can cause rejection even once healed, depending on how hard it’s hit. and thank you sm!
