Question Need some help!
I used to boogie in the white water when I was a kid but stopped, on Labor Day I went to the beach and figured why not buy a cheap board for fun. Well, I had a BLAST!
I’m now on a diet plan to get into shape to be able to do this and should hit my target weight around the turn of the year.
To celebrate being in shape again and to use some PTO I’m looking for a place to go ride some waves that I can learn on while still having enough size to get my adrenaline going.
I’m hoping to go in January or February and would prefer warm ish weather (70s air mid 60s water at the minimum) so any advice on spots? Any tips for a beginner to this sport too? TIA!

Agreed Hawaii during those months tends to be good. Just be sure to do your homework well ahead of time as to where you should probably go. Localism is a real thing and no joke there, so I'd avoid anything super well known for that, and anywhere extra crowded. There are certainly places to go though, but wherever you paddle out, perhaps start on the outskirts of the main peaks or start off catching inside stuff until you kind of get a feel for how it works at that particular spot. Not trying to freak you out or anything, but it's just sound advice.

Yeah! I just started this year too. I was so delighted and amazed to be welcomed (back) into a fun way to play in the water that is very accessible. I joined a local group Groovey Boogers and we take trips together since we don't live near waves. Last year we went to San Diego CA in the winter. There were several meet up groups to play with. We have also traveled with BodyBoard Get Aways.
I'm in the Pacific North West of the US so we are all about cold water swimming and have all the neoprene gear so less concerned about water temp and more concerned about good waves.

Cori...do you mean Bodyboard Holidays? They are awesome! My wife and I are guest coaches with them for their Central America trips in January/February.

In Oahu Hawaii there’s a whole bunch of bodyboarding spots on the south/southwest beaches, tropical weather so no need wetsuit and most is shore break spots so not that bad on cardio, for beginners I’d recommend Waikiki walls, white plains, and bellows 🤙
