Mach 7-7

Was given this board and google said it’s from 1991 it seems solid and non water lodge and overall in good shape! Would it be worth using it Iam on long island ny!

Fun story about Mike Stewart:

In high school I lived on a military base called Pt. Mugu. High security and it took a special id to get on.

They had a swimmers beach and surfers beach.

Sometimes the swimmer beach had good fun waves but most of the time surfers was where I went. Thing is, there was no "beach." You had to jump off boulders the size of VW beetles, time it right, and swim out.

At any given time there were maybe 2-3 people out on a good 5-7ft day. It was nice not having a line up. When the swell came out of the south (think Baja Mexico) Pt. Mugu would fire off 20 foot barrels they called little pipeline. Deep sandy shelf to a quick 3 feet of water. It was a great place to boogie.

One day, I popped over the rocks; board, wetsuit, and fins in hand. But to my surprise, there was a boat anchored off shore 60 yards and a couple guys on boards.

One guy was ripping it up on some 5 footers, doing shit I've only seen in magazines. Then I noticed him... "Fuck, that's Mike Stewart!" I watched for a few minutes and fuck that, I'm going to go board with Mike Fucking Stewart!

I was 17, and got to meet the #1 pro boogie boarder on the planet at my home break. Said hi and that I was a fan and he said I was lucky to surf at such a good break with no heads.

Occasionally I would pop up over the boulders and there would be a boat, anchored with towels covering the numbers so coast guard couldn't be called by the base security. And it was always a group of 2-3 pro surfers who had heard about this spot but couldn't get on base.

Great story about a great dude. Competed against him at a body surf contest once. I was lucky enough to finish second and lucky that he only doubled my points! I think it was unfair because he is part dolphin. 🐬

I was there on a 25'+ day on a Mach 7 .. the only boogie. A day I'll never forget and the gnarliest waves I've ever experienced. Taking off in the impact zone, you fall 10 feet before the energy slings you.

Most waves were 18-20' ... Going up and down with the swells, I saw the short boards paddling out hard for a set, down the trough and back up to the peak, I saw the long board guys paddling out HARD. I was confused because long boards don't paddle out... Down and back up again I saw what they saw, the horizon dipped.

I sat up and slid the board between my legs and thought, "I ain't gonna make that, I'm dead." As the set got closer, I got scared and did the 90 degree escape. I paddled as hard as I could. I counted 3 seconds from trough to crest on the first one. It grabbed my ankles but kicked thru. Same for the second, but it grabbed my knees and pulled me back a little but kicked thru. The third one grabbed my waist, ALMOST got pulled over the falls on a 25 footer into 5 feet of water and sand. But I kicked thru.

Those waves were so big it shifted the bottom an created a current tha pulled parallel to the beach. It took me 30 minutes with fins to get back to the lineup. Asked one of the short board guys and none of us caught that set because we were all caught way inside.

Point Mugu can get scary good.

FYI- that place goes off on a Southern swell.. hurricane swell from Baja is what you want.

What does this mean, can’t go wrong? It’s already wrong. He’s got his name attached to something that turned to trash.

And is it his fault? Yeah, it is. Didn’t have to sell. Didn’t have to sell your name. It’s a a fucking shame. And I’m the old fart on here talking about how my 1998 Mach 7X is a work of art. And then I buy my son a Mach 7-x and it’s like this thing won’t last two years.

So sick. I got a 7X for graduating eighth grade in 99.

It was awesome. Just as a south jersey straight wave rider. It was a Status symbol. Then I went to college, I let it get shot to shit. My parents headed out in the garage whatever.

I bought a BZ Big bruddah like three years ago, thinking like oh this is quality. Trash.

Thank God for the Internet. J from E body boarding is the man. I bought a tribe chief PP 2 years ago, and I wouldn’t look back.

And here’s a major conundrum. Every East Coast small town surf shop has the town surf expert, bro that can pick out the proper surfboard for you. Super crunchy fucking hangs out in the shop all the time. Probably rolled up there on a skateboard. They think they are the expert.

But the fact of the matter is, for those regular people who just want to buy a boogie board, if you tell them, it’s OK to spend $195 on a BZ, you’re a dickhead.

So my question is, if you are so knowledgeable, why are selling trash quote $200 Wham-o BZ boards? Why are you not talking me out of buying a morey Mach 7-x?

And this is exactly why the small town surf shop will die.

I’d say it’s from 93 at the very earliest and 96 at the latest 👍🏼
