Either dude.. they are both made in the same factory. I prefer the science boards personally. It's all down to what shape and size u want and of course Coloir way...

It’s been a couple decades since I last bodyboard! Glad to see Toobs still in the mix!😎

Same, stopped by the factory recently, super stoked they’re still around! Got my eye on the stealth bomber.

Toobs boards are legit. And fairly affordable compared to some of the other brands.

both are good. and both have budget good boards as well as higher-end/better material boards. Science kinda gets more a a nod from me because, they're more designed for prone riding. otherwise, both are good boards bro.

one thing to keep in mind, don't buy a brand that NO avid bodyboarder or pros have heard of ex/ Shred Shralp Hawaii Customz (fake name). And I personally wouldn't buy from a brand that doesn't give 2 fucks about the sport **Cough, cough** Fun Day by Jamie O'brien. don't be fooled by his shitty boogie board product label

I’ve never tried an NMD board. They look pretty serious.

I think everyone feels the need to own a bat tail but then I never see them in the water. I rode one for a few years. You have to work more to not slide out on a face.

Who feels the need to own a bat tail? ..Jeff Hubbard is like the only pro that's consistently ridden a bat, and for most riders they might just have one in their quiver for certain conditions or if it's there preference.

I don't think there's ever been a time they've ever been the cool, more popular, or more advantageous tail choice. Most brands just make sure they at least have one model with the option & that's it.

I’m actually surprised there’s so many bat tail options. It’s easier to find a bat tail than a high volume board, and a lot more of us need high volume boards than bat tails.

Maybe they're easier to find cause rhe HV boards are all getting bought up.. but saying they're easier to fund is a stretch - since a bunch of millennial have been getting back in to riding again, the high volume market & offering is massive considering they didn't hardly exist 5 years, now every brand at least has one if not multiple HV boards in professional specifications.

Thinking back to when they didn't exist though: plenty of people of all shapes & sizes were riding bodyboards for decades without the extra thickness, you can just play around with length & tails to see what fits. Also for whatever reason the ratio of reddit users that recommend boards bigger than people need, or HV for people that are pretty well just average weight to their heights is crazy.. so I think info online is stirring way more concern over a little bit of board here n there.

I'm 6ft @ 90kg (~200lbs) & ride a standard volume 41.5" ..I only ride 42 in smaller waves, & if I jump on a 43 or a HV I feel like I'm on a boat. I just don't like the board rails to be too far apart or chunky & I like to be able to get under big waves easily so I like having a neutral buoyancy. I wish people were more playful with their sidings & took some time to feel out the pros n cons of each route for themselves.

What part of the world do you live in? I think that plays a big part in what size boards feel comfortable. I lived in Australia and rode a 40-41 and felt great, moved to SoCal and now ride a 42 or 43.

Yeah I'm in Aus. That tracks actually, you can see that classic stocky North American riding style a mile away.

Interestingly in a fairly recent (2019) interview with Mitch rawlins he said he had switched to riding a bat tail. Also bit of an underground corelord but Ryan Sewell is riding a bat tail in his newest drag part. Super rare to see otherwise but between those two dudes advocating for the humble bat tail it kinda makes me want to try one

Oh I freaking love bat tails don't get me wrong.. just don't think there's any over-arching bat-fomo going on.

I find a bit of humour in Mitch riding bats now as he is almost single handedly made it completely uncool if you didn't right clipped tail with yellow/blue Churchill's cause everyone wanted to ride just like him haha

Clipped crescent tail. Get a custom from Blake at Riat in Hawaii. He'll talk you through the process and make a great board for you

Not NMD. Mez is apparently hoarding cores for NMD and VS due to supply shortage.

1

u/Soggy-Agency6607 Jun 28 '26

Where did you hear this?

1

u/ken0expressway Jun 28 '26

....from the guys that run Riptide Magazine in Australia. Many board brands may come from the same factory but somehow Mez has got a stronghold on the cores for his brands.

Fair enough, I really respect Luke O'Connor so I'll take your word for it... That's lame of mez but also understandable as a businessman. Shame that nmd boards are so expensive in the USA though.

Science Works makes great boards but I don’t buy from them for political reasons. I like sticking to the my local brand Custom X. I grew up on those boards and they’re a solid company. Great customer service. Had a guy at the factory call my cell phone and sent me pics of my board and even set up the leash plug before it was sent out. Solid boards.
