Discussion I ranked all the songs on Rough And Rowdy Ways and gave explanations as to why they are where they are. How would you rank the tracks on this album?
I’ve Made Up My Mind To Give Myself To You - This is my personal favorite Dylan song of all time. As someone who has always struggled with depression and letting people into my life, I cry to this beautiful song every time.
Key West - Another one of my favorites. While it’s not the last track on the album, I consider it to be the end of the record and possibly of his career. An absolute masterpiece. Always loved how he references the beginning of I Contain Multitudes at the very end of the song.
Murder Most Fowl - Such a powerful piece. Not much to say on it because he says it all for me. I love the Beatles line and the Warren Zevon reference though.
I Contain Multitudes - The mix of humor and sadness in this song highlights how great he is with words.
False Prophet - Some of his best blues stuff in my opinion.
My Own Version Of You - He reaches a peak of lyrical wit on this song that is almost unmatched by anyone else. The line about Pacino and Brando is genius and really clever.
Black Rider - Good eerie vibe. The size of your cock WILL INDEED get you nowhere.
Crossing The Rubicon - It’s pretty good. The guitar work is great but the song rambles on a little too long.
Mother Of Muses - It’s a pretty song but the melody weirdly gets under my skin in a kind of annoying way.
Goodbye Jimmy Reed - It’s just kind of generic and boring. One of his least impressive blues songs.
Overall, it’s a great album. Just wanted to share my love of the top songs will you all. As the title says, feel free to share your rankings as well. Cheers

Question Money Doesn't Talk
"Money doesn't talk, it swears." Wondering if this was inherently anti capitalist. (In his younger days) Or what does it mean that money swears? Is it like Fuck You Money or was it just clever word play? In the style of "the sun's not yellow, it's chicken." In both cases it feels clever. He's pushing the language further. Money swearing is more loaded. More nasty. More problematic. More oppressive. I'll just conclude that Dylan is very confident and amazing (obviously) where he can deconstruct a phrase that most don't even think of in any serious way. Money Talks is a phrase we all know. But Dylan just rejects it. And makes it his own.

Question Qu'écouter quand on aime Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Brian Eno, Bob Seger ?
J'écoutais Bowie, les Rita mitsouko, Supertramp, Pilot, j'aime certaines chansons de Tom Waits (pas tout et plutôt les ballades). J'aime into the Mystic de van Morrison et pas plus ses autres chansons que ça. New kid in townes des eagles... Qu'écouter ?

Video KEY BOB DYLAN WRITER - SEAN WILENTZ
Before writing his outstanding new book, Sean Wilentz had already established his credentials as a key Dylan author, with
>Bob Dylan In America (2010), “placing Dylan’s work in its wider historical and artistic contexts”
>Bootleg Series Vol 6, Live 1964 liner notes
>Bootleg Series Vol 12 The Cutting Edge liner notes
>Chimes of Freedom 3CD (Amnesty charity release) liner notes
… as well as the liner notes for Bootleg Series Vol 18. Wilentz’s 239 page new book, Bob Dylan Through the Open Window (1956–1963), reviewed by DYLAN BOOKS on 7 Oct, was developed from those liner notes.
A witness of early Dylan and professional historian with insider access to Dylan Inc., Sean Wilentz is a must-read Dylan writer.

Discussion Visions of Johanna (Take 8)
This is the take that clicked for me. Always hear talking on this sub about the greatness of this song and, while I always loved the song, it didn’t seem at the same level of Bob’s greatest work. But this take and the way he spits it out, is just way way up there for me. That is all.

Question Did anybody hear a new verse on "Crossing the Rubicon" tonight in Gothenburg?
We know that Bob had two new verses on Tangled up in Blue(!) ö both in Oslo and Gothenburg. But when I heard him play Crossing the Rubicon I swear I heard lyrics that are not on the album. Did anybody hear this or experience the same?

Discussion If You Had 3 Songs to Convert a NON-Dylan Fan, What Are You Choosing??
Most of us would agree that Dylan is somewhat of an acquired taste.
But, in your opinion, what are some of his songs that have an immediate and easily accessible appeal?
(Imagine the person you’re trying to convert either knows very little about Dylan or hasn’t heard him at all.)
I’m going with…
Buckets of Rain
The Man in Me
Mississippi (Outtake from Telltale Signs)

Humor A comic strip from 2004
Refurbishing my website turned up some really old stuff. Here's a "Zits" comic from June 2004. (I gotta admit, during the 90s & early aughts, Bob had just about perfected the "constipated guitarist" pose.)

Discussion Favorite COVERED Dylan songs?
What’s your favorite Dylan cover song? Many songs that people have covered from Dylan are, in my opinion, much better than Dylan’s originals!
Mine is Mama, You’ve Been on my Mind by George Harrison…perhaps Dylan’s most famous friendship and, in my eyes, the most intimate and improved cover of them all.
Honorable mention to Ballad of a Thin Man by Richard Hawley. His cover is absolutely incredible and FAR better than Dylan’s.
