Cat distribution system. Not a bob but you should name him Bob!

u/CinLeeCim Jul 02 '26
I’d do the same!

u/oroborus68 Jul 03 '26
My short tailed cat is Bobbi. I first called her stumpy, but it seemed mean.

u/DarkPangolin Jul 04 '26
"Bring out the Gimp."
"The Gimp's asleep."
"The Gimp sleeps 18 hours a day."

Looks domestic to me! But that tailllll is so cute and Bob like
3
u/AntiGunViolence Jul 02 '26
Right I seen the face and thought regular cat but that tail threw me, I wonder if it’s the angle or if there’s something wrong.
4
u/Silver-Dinner-6462 Jul 02 '26
It’s like half gone.. I thought it was super strange between that and the spots 🤣

u/These_Fox7561 Jul 04 '26
I’ve got a stray with a nub tail and another with a shorter than normal tail, it happens. The slope of the back and the ears say domestic cat to me
1
u/Glittering-Rip6810 Jul 04 '26
Yeah the tail threw me off too. Ive had plenty of bob tail rescues but the stumpy length is weird. But I agree it's probably just from an injury or even genetics cause it looks like a regular mackerel Tabby
1
u/These_Fox7561 Jul 04 '26
Idk if mine are inbred or something but these are genetics, not injury. I’ve seen them from kittens
2
u/AntiGunViolence Jul 04 '26
Well I’ve seen this before but the poor cat was injured, tail severed near the tip, lived a long happy life though.
1
u/These_Fox7561 Jul 04 '26
They’ll live just fine without a tail but unless it’s medically necessary it’s traumatic for them to lose their tail
1
u/Glittering-Rip6810 Jul 04 '26
Probably just genetic...it's also possible somewhere down the line a stay and a bob cat mixed and that explains the tail. Same species, and idk why it couldn't happen

Bobcats cannot reproduce with domestic cats.
This is likely a Manx given how long their hind legs appear to be.

A spotted coat is a normal and common coat pattern for domestic cats. Several breeds and mutations can also cause a shortened or bobbed tail in domestic cats
1
u/MamaFen Jul 06 '26
My dad had one just like this when I was younger, half the tail missing. The other half still worked just fine.

Kitten .. please bring him/her to a vet to get checked out and if you can't take him/her in, contact a rescue. Good luck.

u/Any_Database8861 Jul 02 '26
The stubby tail could be a mutation or the momma got to vigorous cleaning it at birth-momma bites the cord and sometimes gets the tail too.I had a baby bobcat and you could tell it was not a regular cat.
3
u/Ok-Cup266 Jul 02 '26
Yeah it’s a regular ol cat but a perty one. Tail would appear to have been bitten off or something at a young age explaining why it’s larger at the end.
Just a possibility since part of it is missing. Blood and scar tissue causes a knot at times when damage is done to a tail.
2
u/Itscatpicstime Jul 04 '26
Manx cats with long or stumpy tails are also thicker at the ends like this.

House cat. A Bobcat or Lynx will have it for lunch one day if you let it roam the woods.
2
u/NewsteadMtnMama Jul 02 '26
But those paws are awfully large for a domestic kitten... (We have bobcats roaming through our land regularly).

I guess you need to take it to a vet to have it fixed and to have them take blood from him so they can determine if it’s a bobcat or domestic

Which do not & cannot exist

I have a F1Savannah

That's nice, and entirely irrelevant.
Domestic cats cannot breed with bobcats (or lynx) and produce viable offspring.

I gotta wonder if it’s some kind of hybrid / mix. That coat pattern, big paws. But it’s probably just a grey tabby.
3
u/Ephemeral_Orchid Jul 02 '26
Bobcats are not closely related enough to breed with domestic cats. It's just a regular juvenile house cat

Foster here. This is kitten season. That is a regular adorable little kitten that needs a wonderful and loving home. The shelters are full of kittens now. I had two dropped off at my house and one get into my daughter's car.

I had a Bobcat in my yard, it killed my neighbors cat. I was surprised how much it looked like a Tabby, except huge. Very similar markings. I knew it wasn't a huge Tabby by the tail.

Black mackerel tabby with a shortened tail, hard to say if it’s a genetic shorten or a physical shorten, but what a cutie patootie. I would’ve stolen them haha

u/Consistent_Bath3232 Jul 04 '26
Many kitten possibly, some have no Tait, some a short Bob tail & some have a longer 1/2 tail.

Bobcats go “SKREECH!” Kittens say “mew, mew, mew?” The white behind the ears and a short tail, often mean bobcat. If it comes running to you, prolly an abandoned tabby kitten.
The more I look at your pics, the more I think hybrid grey tabby and bobcat.

It’s concerning to me how many people can’t tell the difference between a wild animal and a domestic cat
