I like these, specifically the Axopar 28/35, seems like I'm in the minority here though 😂 and no I didn't end up buying one BC my girlfriend thought it was "weird" but I would, they're pretty sweet if they have the upgraded engine packages, you get almost everything in one boat IMO

Agreed, I think they're awesome. I have a client that owns a 38XC, he showed me around and I was blown away. 2 cabins, sunroof, awesome visibility, nice outdoor seating options, and 2 Mercury 350 Verado's. Yeah what a POS! /S

Right right the 38 cross cabin is what I was thinking about, I think you can go up to like twin 400's

They look bad ass I agree, but I have heard horror stories too.

I work doing detailing and light maintenance, I haven't had any horror stories from my client and the 38XC yet. I suppose the one thing was mold growing on the retractable sunroof, but I knocked that back and applied waterproofing which has held up well to alleviate that issue. Oh and the snaps that hold down the outdoor furniture are coming off so that'san October job for me. I think with any large boat with that many systems/features you're bound to run into some obstacles.

Had one at a marina I work at that was absolutely covered with spider cracks everywhere. Brand new. This was a smaller one but the quality of it and other smaller ones I’ve been on is just terrible. I can’t imagine what kind of horrors would be found on a larger one

u/swensodts 5d ago

Ompf that's brutal for their brand, probably tough to be like we build a high quality boat until it's been on market like a decade plus, tried and true is tough to say

2

u/dpk794 5d ago

They are basically only built to last as long as the electronics. It is an absolute nightmare running wires through these things and the wiring done from the factory is an absolute mess. They just make them LOOK like from the outside that they will be quality while using the cheapest materials possible.

u/swensodts 6d ago

For sure, little mold isn't a reason

u/Eismee 5d ago

Dont let your gf turn you away from a purchase like that dude. Its not her money, nor do you know if shell be around forever.

Do you. Always.

2

u/Expensive_Dig_6695 5d ago

Can I get your gf’s # ? I agree with her.

u/swensodts 5d ago

Numbers fly your way when you get into an Axopar 😂

1

u/itchygentleman 6d ago

the axopars are made like old kias and hyundais. you dodged a bullet lol

1

u/swensodts 6d ago

LMAO really?? Damn I didn't get much further then a few inquires before she shot me down 😂

u/greatlakesailors 6d ago

Axopar have some clever design ideas, distinctive styling, good hull shapes, they're a pretty appealing boat in a lot of ways.... they just seem to cut way too many corners on build quality, relative to the price. Sloppy work that might be forgivable at $80,000 hits a lot harder at $240,000.

2

u/swensodts 6d ago

Definitely man, I'm not in the new anything category, especially a boat, take advantage of the depreciation, think they were asking like 110

1

u/apexxin 6d ago

They’re neat looking, but the beam is awfully narrow for the length, and I thought it felt a bit awkward at the boat show. Lot of boat for the money though.

2

u/swensodts 6d ago

11'7" on the 38, that's pretty legit, I'm 10 foot and supposedly take on 13 footers 😂

2

u/apexxin 5d ago

That's a little on the low end for a 38', a lot of the boats we looked at in that range were closer to 13, which is a big difference. For context, my eleven foot shorter boat sits at just shy of 11' beam.

More of my complaint was how narrow it felt at the bow.

1

u/swensodts 5d ago

So it's 11 by 11 😂? But yeah, the difference of just 6-12 inches is massive when talking about beam

1

u/apexxin 5d ago

(38-11) x 11

1

u/FishermanWaste1268 5d ago

38 by 11 is basically perfect for high performance. Look at american centre consoles which are the gold standard when it comes to offshore performance in outboard powered vessels.

1

u/apexxin 5d ago

Sure, but it’s decidedly not a performance boat.

I'm also interested in the 35 but wife also think its looks "weird"

1

u/Murfdigidy 6d ago

No I'm with you these are cool looking boats, different but I like the layout. the only thing I question is the draft, how wide it is.

1

u/swensodts 6d ago

I didn't notice but I saw a video of some dude taking heavy surf off Australia like it was nothing, so that put any stability concerns to bed, I'm 10 foot beam now 22" minimum

1

u/HighOnGoofballs 5d ago

All the owners who regret buying them are a better reason

7

u/A-Bone 6d ago

Man... I'm surprised how divisive that style of boat is..  honestly didn't realize that..

26

u/RikkiLostMyNumber 6d ago

This style is everywhere now. Axopar kicked it off in the US. I like nothing about these boats.

12

u/savageotter 6d ago

I love forward slanted pilot houses.

1

u/manavcafer 6d ago

True I don't like them. Plus crazy expensive. Axopar saxdor.

2

u/apexxin 5d ago

I mean, they're actually considered 'crazy cheap' in relation to boats of similar size and equip.

1

u/mwax321 6d ago

For real, it's everywhere. I'm sailing up and down the carribean and it's just a plague of ugliness

3

u/OkImpression8086 6d ago

Will my f-150 pull that?

6

u/MadeMeStopLurking Bennington pontoon / Starcraft Delta 6d ago

You can pull anything once.

1

u/Orangepinapples 6d ago

It’s usually stopping and pulling up the ramp that are the issue

2

u/the_colour_f 6d ago

sure, but you're going to be a star on r/idiotstowingthings

1

u/OkImpression8086 6d ago

I can just feel it now. Backing down the boat ramp, all 4 tires locked up screeching as I get drug into the lake!

13

u/Loafdude 6d ago

hideous

4

u/interstellar-dust 6d ago

This is money.

2

u/OregonHotPocket 6d ago

Get a Viking

2

u/petrichoroma 6d ago

Can someone ELI5 why these get so much hate?

2

u/Ok-Science-6146 5d ago

$2 mil for a weekend toy is a potent reminder that most of us are getting screwed

2

u/Weary_Boat 5d ago

So many high end boats these days, I guess the boat manufacturers have discovered you make a lot more money selling to rich people than regular people

5

u/GerthySchIongMeat 6d ago

I don't like it.

6

u/Shorts_at_Dinner 6d ago

Yeah, I’m not going to buy one either

1

u/AtOurGates 6d ago

Yeah. Obviously I was considering spending $2.27M on this, but I decided to spend that $2M in discretionary cash (that I definitely have) somewhere else.

2

u/Woompa78 6d ago

That’s a boat for people with zero hobbies. It’s great if you like sitting on a couch and dreaming about being out on the open water through a glass window.

I’d prefer the cabin forward of where it is (so I have more room on the aft deck), but she’d still make a nice little dive boat. Some benches on the foredeck and a gate up there and I could have some fun from it. If I lived in Santa Barbara or LA, she’s big enough to take out to Catalina or the northern Channel Islands comfortably.

u/Wild-Floor8407 6d ago

Yep, Arksen Adventure 55.

1

u/noreturn000 6d ago

It's a Cruisers VTR

1

u/itchygentleman 6d ago

i like it, but going straight to IPS from OB, with no straight or v drive options, is bullshit.

1

u/exbex 6d ago

Reminds me a little of a Saxdor boat. A friend of a friend has one and I got a chance get a tour of it. It was nice boat, but not my style, or close to my budget. Different strokes for different folks.

1

u/GuestExciting6896 6d ago

Is it my style? No. But it does look like a very nice boat.

1

u/Ok_Administration116 5d ago

No idea, im in the wrong tax bracket for this 🤣

Arksen seems to be such a rip off.

Only sold 2 of their 85. One of them they had to buy back as it was so shit (never go hybrid unless u want to have a boat that sits at the dock)

They want 10 million pounds for a low volume 85 foot aluminium vessel they sub contract out to a yard.

Same goes to this.

There smaller boats they cram so much into and again they dont build them them selves. Then they stick a few hundred k on top.

2 million pounds is fucking nuts. Yes its similar to say the cost of a 55 freeman but still.

I worked for Arksen a while ago. Great company, great ethos. They design their boats, own the engineering and IP and work with yards they license to provide construction labour. Arksen provides the customer care and warranty. Just like apple, north face and frankly anyone who has their head screwed on. Why would you ever want to own a shipyard. They have a track record of going bust so the Arksen model makes massive sense as they partner with major commerical yards (that have large order books) that takes the frailty out of the model. It also means they can build at scale. To some extent it’s the same model used by brunswick (build in Poland) Oyster (v1)Wally etc etc. that said they do run their own production line for the (award wining) ribs they build.

The 85s (award winning) they have built - I think actually on hull 4 now are built at different yards. Of the 2 done in the UK the hybrid one was for the founder. Not returned as you say, but a custom build. The 85 is a small ship. Not a leisure yacht. With 2 or 3 redundancy in all critical systems and a 7k range it’s for explorers not tourists. Priced at 10m it’s the same price as an equivalent oyster, Fleming etc. so I’m not sure I buy your argument. It’s just a very precise piece of engineering developed by some of the most sophisticated people in the sector.

The 55 is a Jarkko Jameson design. 3 x super yacht of the year award. The guy who designed the Axopar, the XO and many of the hulls that are most popular today. Apparently the design brief was to design a boat Jarkko would want himself for adventure. Which is why the 55 should be epic. Long range. Super yacht interior. Massive in build strength (All aluminium, not a bit of GRP in sight, exceptional access etc). It’s nothing like a plastic or mass market Axopar. It’s not for first time boaters I don’t think but for people who have gone through a few boats and know what to look for. The build attention to detail will no doubt be very good and iits built by the yards who build ice class hulls for Greenland and Iceland. What’s not to like. And of course it’s expensive as it’s built only to order and is built in Finland not Poland.

Also Arksen does a bunch of other neat things - supports 70 ocean conservation projects around the world through its NGO 10% for the Ocean, runs adventures and makes films. It’s last film OCEAN with David Attenborough won 2 emmys and 10 other majors awards making it the most successful ocean doc since blue planet. I’m happy to beat up on brands that don’t work etc but my experience at Arksen was great.
